ok first let me begin by saying this isnt a street car ........ i know a 1.8 tranny will bolt up to my duel overhead . my question here is will it make my car a little snappier ?. i basicly run the car in second gear and im looking for a little more pick up .......ive been told the gear ratios are better in a 1.8 . i cant find any facts to verify this can I get a little input from some one ?........i also know these trannys arent very reliable .but here again its for a circle track car and im hoping to pick up a little snap by the tranny swap ?....all input is definitly welcome .thank you ..

The 1.8l transmission code is a 5FM21. 5FM22 is the 2.0l. I do not know the gear ratio's for the 1.8 but I know it holds less fluid. This is probably due to a different gear set that is weaker than the 5FM22 IMO. Can you pull the gear sets out and count the teeth?

i realy dont want to tear the tranny apart just to find out . i was hoping some one would have this info available . but hey thanks you guys ...... maybe some one out there knows where i can look .

still trying to find out if puting a 1.8 tranny in my 2.0 is going to change the ratio?........ im hoping to pick up a little more snap especialy in second gear ......any input here

according to vfaq it lists just one set of ratios for 1g nt

IF HIGHPSI is correct and the transmission code is 5FM21 for the 5-Speed maual in a 1.8L then the final drive ratio is 4.322 which is the same exact ratio that the 2.0L N/T transmission has. Cannot find anything else on this trans.

Why dont you get adjustable cam gears so you can fine tune your power band...
