so no matter how much i search for this i can never find anything stating a yes or no answer with the differences..
i have a 92 eclipse GS non turbo 2.0L automatic.
ive been planning a manual swap for a long time and now that i have a bit of spare cash the 2.0 NT 5-speed ive had my eye on forever at the junkyard got crushed
i managed to find a 1.8L tranny and was i wondering if i could swap that in granted i get 6 bolt flywheel and clutch.
what complications could i have and what are the main reasons why it may not work.
thanks in advance:dsm:

thanks man that is helpful
but still not the kind of answer i want LOL
i pretty much need a "yes the 4g37 transmission will bolt up to a NT 4g63 block" before i buy the 1.8 and end up wasting money because it doesn't fit. or there are some stupid things that arent right

thanks though :dsm:

The FSM shows that both the 4G37 and 4G63 NT use a F5M22 manual transmission, which one could make the assumption that a 1.8 transaxle will bolt to a 2.0 engine. Now it should be noted that each transmission has different gearing to coincide with the specific torque/power curves of the engines, but both have a final drive ratio of 4.322.

thank you dsmboostin that cleared alot up
but i did find a f5m33 tranny for cheap and as far as i know it will work on my 92 since it is from a 90 and they have the same transaxle size
and it came off the same block i have
thanks again

What? Did you not even read the link. LOL the op states he used the tranny althought the gear ratios were different everything worked with the exception of the flywheel having to be swapped. At any rate I think its a go! Ringlings down captain ;)

i chose the f5m33 tranny for a few reasons
a. it is a stronger set up
b. better gas mileage
c. i needed to replace transaxles anyways
d. i got a really good friend price on it all

the swap will be done this sunday, thanks for all your insight guys it did help alot.

One thing to remember when swapping in a '90 transmission into a '91+, you need to swap out the shift cable linkages (the linkages on the transmission) on the '90 with the '91+. Otherwise you will grind and not be able to go into gear due to the lever ratio of the shifter and cables. If you were to put a '91+ trans into a '90, you would have to swap out the entire shifting system: shifter & base, cables, linkages, etc.

the swap is complete
i have one problem though
the clutch isnt engaging till its almost at the floor
and i cant get into 5th with the shifter cables attached
anythoughts?
i did put a kb50ans trans in but its supposedly the exact same and the spare f5m33 i bought
also now when im moving and start slowing down(let off gas) it makes this weird rubiing or kinda knocking noise....
anything helps.
thanks
