haha, I'm not sure Danny is up for a second gear pull right now.

Thanks for the vid, Pat. I would've smoked that Vette if I coulda shifted right.

I got the shifting thing figured out yesterday. I pulled the clutch, it's time to rebuild it.

YUP... no pulls at all for a while haha
Broke something in the trans on sunday, got towed home, started working on the car, and today Kahfae came by to help me out with all the major stuff . Thanks again Kahfae!!! I really wouldnt have gotten the trans out without ya!!! I owe ya big time!!!

Haha you guys should see my clutch!!! talk about heating something up hahahhaahaaa looks like i got my pressure plate and fw friction surface chromed hahaha

Dave's gonna open the trans up for me and tell me what im looking at. Hopefully its just a shift fork/rail something easy and the gears and synchros are all good. Only time will tell haha.

Lol Danny I remember you saying you're happy you're not breaking trannies with your power level on the way back from CMI too, guess I should've brought some wood with me. :thumb:

If you need help with the tranny feel free to call me, I'm fresh off a tranny drop, actually doing my rear main seal as I post right now so all of this is still fresh in my mind. I'm always willing to lend a DSMer a hand :thumb:

ahhhh
im going to pull my hair out going back and forth between the 2600 and 2900 pp...
FAAACK!!!
Either way, im going unsprung street disc with it and new OEM everything else! With a act flywheel.

Damn i need to get this car straightened out so i can get to the f'n track!!! It seems like half the season is already gone!!!

If you enjoy having your crank where it is now I'd go with the 2600, that PP is already heavy as hell from what I've seen. I dunno about unsprung dude, everyone I've heard say they went unsprung either didn't like it cause they DDed/drove the car on the street or loved it because it worked well on the strip, you're kind of in between so I think sprung would be better for you, especially since you haven't had any issues (AFAIK, you haven't mentioned anything) with a sprung disc.

too many issues with a sprung... thats why im going unsprung buddy
Seems like the evo guys are liking that disc. Its helping to cure lockout issues to those who were using the heavier sprung discs before. It should be the best of both worlds, light since its unsprung, and not too harsh of engagement since its a full faced disc. Either way im going to give it a try.

The 2600 PP is rated at 400ft/lb of torque correct? I should be making that eventually with the car. (not on seans mustang dyno, but at the crank i would assume) so i dont want to have to pull the clutch again for something sturdier.

My bad Danny, I didn't see you said street disc, I was referring to the 6 puck unsprung discs. I hope that combination serves you well. They rate the clutches @ crank tq right?

Take it from an Evo guy that had a full face street disc from ACT that got smoked trying to slip the clutch of the line.

I guess it exceeded the torque capacity as i was making 400-420 tq ROFL

Anyway there are some guys running the non-sprung full face disc w/ good results.

My question to you is how often you use the car for pure street duties like going to th emovies, getting groceries, running errands etc?

If not much then you can live w/ the chatter and engagement issues you will always run into when using a non-sprung hub'd disc......trust me it's not much fun to drive on a non-sprung hub'd twin disc that only weighs 18lbs.

I spin my Evo to 8500-8800 so i need something lightweight to ensure NLTS dis-engagement everytime :thumb:

yup i always have a daily driver for going around and running errands. The talon i bring out to drive a fast race car type car. I like the "quirks" and difference in feel so im all for a challenge if the clutch is one. If its just annoying sounding then i could really care less.
I deal with a welded diff and full prothane mounts, no balance shafts, i doubt the clutch will bother me.
Id be happy to deal with some block to block problems if the car shifts clean at 8k haha

I was just saying earlier today that a clutch's torque rating is typically valid for a one-time pull with the clutch fully engaged. Torque ratings are decreased by the heat of launching and from wear.

So where's everyone at with their cars?

Dave, clutch back in?
I know kahfae is still having clutch / hydrdaulic problems
Ted, motor plans? or are you putting the dsm on hold?
Yuri... i havent heard anything from ya for a while!!!

Me... my trans is still in my garage, i promise i'll order parts for it this week... just trying to think how serious i should go with the build...

As for now, this is my new set of wheels im driving around now on the daily.
89 240sx coupe 5 speed
Pretty neat little car, has some cool features.

Ive already put in a rear LSD within a week of owning the car haha Damn easy install. Windows are tinted now and i upgraded the stario a bit.

I dont plan to do anything to it power wise. Just keep it maintained and put tires on it hahahaa RWD+5 Speed+ New LSD=Fun :D

I just got my car started for the longest time in a while today, I just need to adjust the clutch and bleed the cooling system and I SHOULD be good to go, but I'm not going to really drive it more than around the block until I get my braided oil line next week for the oil feed @ the head. I saw Kah Fai in his dd today and gave him a wave.

I was thinking of what a coincidence it was that I saw him on the day I got my car started again.

You getting that tranny back together yet Danny?

It was nice seeing you Yuri.

I'm going to work on the clutch hydraulics tomorrow and see if I can figure out what's going on. Aside from that, I should finally have everything I need this week to get my downpipe for the S259 done. Also happy to say everything went smoothly with the new motor, and it's running well. Except for the clutch thing, but that's a separate issue!

Yes, I got the car re-assembled yesterday. I also installed a 4 bar map sensor so I can crank up the boost as high as 41psi max, if I dare. I also adjusted the map scaling so I'm not constantly running off the edge of the maps.

I also remembered that I had advanced the cam gears last winter to make street driving a little nicer. So I retarded the cam gears by a few degrees and re-set the timing to match. That should give the car a nice jump in top end power. I'm psyched to race BOTI in 2 weeks!

Danny, that's a nice ride, very clean.

Good stuff guys.

Looks like im the only one lagging on my car here!!

I'll order my parts this week, Dave i'll let you know the deal. Do you think that 2nd gear is OK to reuse or should i get a new one?

I'll see you guys at the next drift day ok? Hahahahaaaa

whoa, I didn't see this post until now. Sorry for the late reply.
Sorry again, but I forget what your 2nd gear looks like, it's been so long since I saw it. It's just the syncro's that you're worried about, right? I think your new clutch should take care of any hard shifting issues, although if you want it to shift slightly better at maximum rpm a new gear, hub/slider, and syncro kit might help.

eh, im just going to order the parts you said to order. If im going to go any more in depth in the trans i might as well just build it up nice with evo gearset and all. I'll wait till the next time i break my trans to do that though haha.

well the trans has been rebuilt (big thanks to Dave) and the clutch/trans is in the car (again big thanks to Dave) and ive now got a couple hundred miles on the car.

Ive got next wednesday off and Im pretty sure im going to go race.

Anybody else looking to get out and race on Sept 2nd ? Nows the time to get some timeslips before the racing season is over!!!

Danny, I'm glad to hear the trans is workig well for you.
I plan on going to Infineon this Wed, 9/2. My car is running good right now, hopefully it'll put up some nice times!

Here's a peek at another trans I'm working on; Transmission Issues FTL! - Evo Empire Forum There's some interesting posts in there.
BTW he's using Redline lightweight shockproof oil in the trans, not liquified Smurfs.

Man i need some work on my tune. I got on the car hard a couple of times and its knocking. Turned down the boost a bit, and its still knocking.

Ive been outta town this last weekend, and im leaving after school tomorrow to go back up to colusa so i can hunt on tuesday. So maybe i can take a look at the tune wed morning !!! haha

Dave, call me up wednesday and see what time were leaving.

Whoops, I forgot to call Danny. what's up?
I went out to race and left my drag radials home. I just wanted to have some fun and not worry about hitting my absolute best time. And it was fun!

On my first pass the wind pushed my car back when I was staged, so that's a technical redlight. It showed up on the timeslip as a 3.0 60 ft time. The clock started when I redlighted, so it added to my time. Overall time was 12.6 @ 126mph. If that had been a 1.8 60ft time the run would've been good.

Run #2 was 11.1 @126 with a 1.8 60ft time. I spun all 4 wheels all the way through first gear while bouncing off the 9k rev limit! A few guys told me the crowd liked it. It was also cool to race against a supercharged GTO on slicks and win. :)

Run #3 was almost the same, except I tried to rush the 3-4 shift and missed it. 11.4 @121.

My final run was another tire spinning high rpm blast. 11.3 @125. That was my last run of the night since I suck at bracket racing, and I was in the Comp Rod category, those guys are good.

I was happy to see that my best 1/8th run got me over 100mph. 7.2 @102mph. :)

It was a fun night. I also got to see the ultimate newbie move. There was a guy in a civic trying to stage his car, but the wind kept pushing it back. He already redlighted the first time he rolled back, but the starter was trying to give him a second chance. So he kept rolling forward into the staging lights, then rolling back again. After 3 or 4 more tries he drives a few feet beyond the staging lights and stages by going in reverse, then holding position with the brakes. It works and he's finally staged and not moving. The lights count down, he revs the engine, the light goes green and his car jerks and lurches about 5 feet backwards!!!
