Well folks, its 09 and its a beautiful day outside, rare for January, I was driving my car around today and the thought of the 09 Infineon Wed Night Drags and race season came into my mind so i figured I'd look into makind a new thread to see where everyone is at.

Here is the info on this year, for those of you who dont know the rules.

Infineon Raceway | Raceway Info | Wednesday Night Drags

Wednesday Night Drags

POPULAR PROGRAM GIVES PEOPLE A SAFE, LEGAL, CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT IN WHICH TO DRAG RACE THEIR CARS, AWAY FROM CITY STREETS

WHAT: The popular Wednesday Night Drags program will kick off its 21st consecutive year at Infineon Raceway on March 4, 2009. The raceway will open its gates most every Wednesday night from March 4-Nov. 11 for fans who would like to race down the world-famous quarter-mile drag strip.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of the program is to give people, from teen-agers to working professionals, a safe, legal and controlled environment in which to race their vehicles, as opposed to using city streets or back-county roads.

WHEN: Most Wednesday nights through Nov. 11th. Gates open at 3:30 p.m., racing spans from 5 p.m.-10 p.m. Wednesday Night Drags will NOT run on the following dates: April 22, May 13, June 17, July 22, July 29, Aug. 12, Aug. 19.
WHERE: Infineon Raceway, Highways 37 and 121, Sonoma, Calif., 95476.

WHO: Anyone with a driver's license can compete, providing their vehicle or motorcycle passes a simple technical inspection. All vehicles must have mufflers. To see the rules and regulations for Wednesday Night Drags, please click here. The event attracts a varied crowd, including teen-agers, mothers, working professionals and grandparents racing everything from Corvettes to Mini-Vans. Three-hundred cars are allowed to compete each Wednesday night. The weekly event attracts an average of 900-1,200 people (competitors and spectators).

TOP THE COPS: An added bonus to the Wednesday Night Drags is the Top the Cops program, which enters its 14th season in 2009. Top the Cops allows high school students the rare chance to drag race against Bay Area law enforcement officers on Infineon Raceway's quarter-mile drag strip. Both are given practice runs, leading up to a final-round showdown between the student and an officer who competes in his/her squad car and in full uniform. The Top the Cops program runs from May through August.

COST: $25 competitors, $15 for students with their high school identification card, $10 spectators.

For more information, call 800-870-RACE.

I highlighted the dates in RED in which they have planned to NOT race. If there is a wednesday with rain, snow, sleet, thunder, lightning, or high winds, I would go ahead and call the number highlighted in BLUE and see if racing will be on for that day.

Ok, so i know a lot of locals have been tearing their cars down this winter to go big. How's everything coming along for everyone? Who's ready for this season? And what are your goals?

I'll start off.

I havent done much to the car this winter because I got laid off around Thanksgiving, damn economy!!
However, the car is ready for more boost and a good tune as it sits. I plan to upgrade to V3 of DSMLink for more tuning fun.

When I get back to work and get some cash flow in, I plan to upgrade my cams to the GSC S2's, upgrade my intake manifold to a SMIM (havent really decided which one yet), and I know its almost time for a new clutch, the one i have now is ok, but i'll probably kill it before the season is over.

I'll also need some tires pretty soon, i have a set of EVO enkeis that have been sitting in my garage for about a year now (thanks brian! haha) just waiting on some good tires... Im looking into Kumho MX, Dunlop Direzza Z1, and Falken RT-615, anybody have any suggestions let me know! They'll be used on the street, at the drag strip, and the occasional twist and turn with the main purpose being straightline traction.

Fuel wise, if that E85 station opens up in hayward, or somewhere closer (unless it already has) im thinking of switching to E85, or at least beefing things up to support it, otherwise it'll be good old fashioned pump and race gas for me.

My goals - 11.5-11.99 on pump gas, sub 11.5 on race gas/E85

Hi Danny, how it going?

My car got a few updates in the past few months. I'm taking it slow after the frantic pace it took to set the 14b record. The car lost another 25 pounds, fixed a misfire issue with a new transistor and blacktop CAS, installed a throttle pedal from an auto trans DSM since it has a throttle stop switch, installed two additional crank vents and a catchcan that solved the dipstick popout habit. Somehow the 14b is still on the car! I think I'll leave it on and see if I can get in the 11's on 91 octane. If all goes well I'll add racegas and see if I can drop the record again.

Goin good Dave, Ive been kind of MIA since mid october since its been Duck hunting season. Well, this weekend is the last weekend so i'll have time to tinker with my car from here on out.
My car has kind of sat for most of the time until recently I took it on the 260 mile round trip twice to go hunting. On the second time I decided to push the car a little on the backroads and all of the sudden my turbo wouldnt spool, it sounded like i blew the gasket between the turbo and manifold again, and when i parked my car to check it i lost 3 of the 4 bolts that hold the turbo to the manifold AGAIN!!! haha so i got some new bolts, 1/2" longer and its all good now.
I managed 24mpg for the two trips going about 80-85mph the whole way. I kinda wish i had the taller 5th gear for the trip but it was cool. I was suprised i think thats the best gas mileage ive ever got out of the car haha... I guess the big turbo helps out since im not getting "instaspool" like the old 16g setup.

When i get DSMLINK V3 installed i'll come by and maybe we can tinker with a tune, have you checked it out at all yet? Im planning on running the evo8 timing map and a few other things up my sleve i'd like to try.

Sounds like some fun times are going to be had in your car this year, keep us updated on your plans.

Hey Danny the E85 station has been open for a while. It's at 880 and "A" street.
Thanks for replying, i hoped you would as you are the resident E85 guru haha

Do you know if there are any plans for E85 on the SF side of the bay? It would probably take a station in the city or south sf for me to really switch over, but i might build up the fuel system so that i can use it instead of race gas since im pretty sure its way cheaper.

Whats up with your car? Any new plans or goals?

I read a little about link V3 last week. I'm excited to see the extra features. It's one step closer to a full standalone, but without the hassle.

I should be out there once I have my boost leak issues resolved, and 2g manifold on. Looking for low to mid 13's.

It'll be a little bit before I'm back out again. I'm redoing a lot of things on the car. It got a little tiring wondering before each track day if it'd be the last for my tired 160k motor. I'm really pretty proud that it's still going with the abuse it's been through.

Yeah thats how I feel with my motor. I dont really wanna take it to the track since I'm not very confident about the motor holding together while going down the track. No one likes oil on the track.

Thats why I'm gonna be putting together a 6bolt sometime in the near future.

Must be the frequent oil changes that keeps it together! :shhh: haha

Kahfae give me a call sometime, I havent seen ya in a while!

He has one of the cleanest DSMs I've seen so far as well, I'm hoping he's just being modest, it looked very well put together from what I saw.

Having a DSM makes me wish I had a DD and a better paying job. LOL

both are great to have when owning a dsm. It makes driving and enjoying it a lot more fun because you can drive it how you want it and if it breaks, its no big deal or hurry to get it fixed, when you do have to fix it, its always upgrade time!!!

Where in SF are you?

T9S1i, I'm in the Sunset area, where are you located? And yes it's very unfortunate because I've owned this car since about October and it's left me stranded three times already, my biggest issue is garage space though - I don't mind putting my car under the knife for a weekend, I just really have no room for anything but the car in the garage.

pneumo, are you DRW from DSM talk? Thanks for the warm welcome. :thumb:

EDIT: Just checked and yes you are DRW, I was looking for you on this forum but I didn't realize you had a different name.

The time slip gave it away. :D

I hope I can make it down this year, gotta fix some boost leaks and such and save up for a new clutch because god knows this one will be gone this year, it's already got ~20k on it! :p

i live over by glen park bart. There are a few DSM's in the city ive found, but not many people frequent the forums or just plain dont know about em!
