Since the original batch back in 2020, FIBA Motorsport has consistently had requests to bring these back. After a long wait, we’re opening the door one more time—but this only happens if the demand is there.
What is it?

This is a Quaife-engineered quick ratio manual rack conversion for the 2G DSM.
Faster steering response
Less steering wheel input for more wheel angle
A much more direct and connected driving feel
Think EVO-style steering response, but designed to work within the 2G DSM bolt-on housing—keeping things far more cost-effective and practical.

  • Key Specs
  • Ratio: 2.1 (OEM is 2.55)
  • Type: Full manual rack conversion
  • Manufactured by Quaife Engineering (UK) - Bought to life by FIBA Motorsport
  • Designed specifically for modified 2G DSM housings
  • This is about as close as you’ll get to EVO steering feel in a DSM.

These are now FULL manual racks.
Works great with smaller tire setups
With wider tires (235/245+), expect heavier steering at low speeds
Once moving, steering becomes much more manageable and responsive

If you want power assist, you will need to consider EPAS (Electric Power Steering).

Previously offered by Mr. Cole as a bolt-on kit for DSMs.

  • Precision bore machining on a CNC machine for the new pinion shaft
  • blasting + durable coating (steel components only) on the rack housing,
  • Alloy components left raw for OEM-style finish
  • Full reassembly, greasing, and spec tightening
Option 2 pricing TBC once we discuss with the machine shop.

  • Block-off caps for unused hydraulic ports (Price TBD)

I hear you. I know the price and world has changed since back then. So prices have changed in every section. This is for sure a thing to not miss out on this time around

I have one of the racks from the original order and it is amazing. Anyone on the fence should jump on this one.

It is an event pulling the car in and out of the garage on 245 tires with no assist, but the feel and responsiveness of the rack after parking lot speed is 100% worth it. I modified my steering column to add the Prius power assist motor just before putting the car away for the winter and that was a game changer getting in and out of the garage.

Working on the parts today to get an idea of a few things across the board!

* Seals and bearings will be a part of the rebuild from my service if opted for! This will cover the pinion side fully top mid and bottom! NOTE that the top bearing CANNOT be replaced on the OEM pinion housing as it is a custom bearing size! But the rest is fine to replace!
(IF you do not get a rebuild kit you will just receive the rack and pinion as a set only)

* The rebuild service from me will include all the steel hardware being acid cleaned and re-plated to an OEM spec! Basically you're get back what will look like a factory fresh rack to FIBA Motorsport standards!!!

* The lower old PS (power steering) ports on the steel shaft of the rack itself will be cut off and welded up as standard. This will smooth the rack and offer a nicer, cleaner look!

---OPTIONAL EXTRA parts... Are not required if not wanted and can be rebuilt still just fine!

These can be back used from the first batch of kits done in 2019/2020, so IF you have one of the first batches and would like these optinal items, then please do get in touch via PM, specifically asking for these items only!!!!! I can then add you to these on a separate list.

* Billet pinion housings will be offered up. ONLY they will allow a new upper bearing to be used due to the available off-the-shelf size, The rest is off the shelf anyway so it crosses over ok. These will be anodized black to match the OEM color. These will help shave a good bunch of weight!

* Another part being looked into that has not been done prior is the passenger side end cap and inner seals! These are normally a 2-piece steel system in stock form!
FIBA is looking into a 1-piece BILLET aluminum version to help shave some extra weight, and these use off-the-shelf seals. This will keep the same mounting design with the ring inside but help with some weight loss for an overall lighter rack system!


Currently My spare rack is disassembled and rack is now with the machine shop as they are going to work out the cost for the mounting jig and their part to machine the racks once they come into me for the rebuild service.
My end goal here is to offer the most comprehensive rebuild for you all to the most pleasing and highest spec in looks and performance and with new seals, they will be AS NEW as they was from the factory back in the day.

I already pinged the Facebook thread, BUT IM DOING IT HERE FOR RECORD LOL.

I have Power Steering deleted on my car with a welded center diff, it's really not terrible with normalish tires.

It'd be nice to get a little more assist and clean up the other PS lines. Hoping this takes off

Got some way on the racks and progress of the machine work.

Should hopefully have the rest of the prices this week.

Working on bearings and the new ones will be sealed (metal) to help keep debris out and keep them self lubricated longer as the oem open type rely on grease and fluids. These will add a nice service life.

Note that the upper bearing cannot be replaced on the rebuild service if opting to use the stock metal pinion housing due to a custom bearing size not off the shelf.

So the Billet versions will be the only housing the uppers can be replaced for an off the shelf size

Lower bearing is changed in both options

Is this a direct bolt on with no modifications ?
 
Yes it will be. Once the rack has been rebuilt with machined bore the received kit will be fully bolt on ready for an alignment / setup.

If opting for EPAS from Cole then that will also be bolt on but you will need to do some wiring for the power and ground. That is about it.

This kit and rebuild service is and always was designed to make it as easy for the install as possible
