I own a 91 GSX. I am getting ready to paint the car. I need diagrams or help in removing the spoiler so that the paint shop can spray there. I have checked on this site and have looked in both of the repair manuals as well as the service manual. If any one can help me in explaining how to take off the center and sides, I would like to hear what you would have to say. Thanks for your time

unscrew the antenna and then unscrew the part the antenna scews into(it will look like a large phillips head screw)open your hatch look at the side of the spoiler. there are 2 screws on either side. unscrew the screws and pull toward the back of the car side wing should come off. hatch: remove plastic cover and the will be 2 10mm bolts that need to be unscrewed and o believe their are also two screws on either side of the hatch. remove windshild wiper and then spoiler should put backand off. is any of this too hard to have figures out on your own? if it was please do use a favor and not work on your own car.

Thanks for the help I had taken the two screws off of the side but didn't know how to pull it off. Thanks agian for the help

So if i remove 2 screws in each side piece and the 2 in the center piece...i should just have to remove the antenna and windshield wiper

On the liftgate: take off the inner plastic cover that covers the rear wiper motor and you'll see three screw heads (Philips) that loosens the hold down tabs that hold the rear spoiler in place. The spoiler will come unclipped from those hold down tabs when they are loosened...or removed.

Bringing this one back from the dead only because the relevant article does not allow replies..

Opposite of this procedure -- installing a 1gb spoiler -- does anybody know the mitsu part number for the tabs that hold the 1gb spoiler down? The ones that you attach to the outside of the hatch by a screw from inside the hatch. Need a couple, both were broken.

Are they the same as those used for the 1ga spoiler?

aw :( looks like i have to pull apart my 1ga spoiler to find out then, which helps me none because i dont have a nonbroken clip (or even all the broken pieces to one that i could glue together to get an idea of)

edit

factorychryslerparts.com moght have assisted, but im getting the same diagram for 91 as i am for 93, which differs in spoiler type in reality.

part number mb196420. can anybody confirm?

Not sure exactly which part you are hunting but the 2 following pics are from my 90-92 eagle talon paper parts catalog. The one the counter guys used back in the day!

As an FYI, the 1gb talon spoiler was different than the 1gb eclipse one. The talon one does not go all the way to the hatch glass like the eclipse one. Aside from the 1ga talon spoiler being black, the panel should be the same as all 90-94 eclipse's with the 3pc wrapping spoiler. I SUGGEST using the first pic I post below:

#27 is the part# you referenced

Hope it helps solve your issue.

This is the spoiler. Not sure if there are additional mount holes they have had to cover up if they swapped because, if so, the workmanship definitely doesnt match the rest of the car LOL. The car has a June 1991 build date.

The two clips I am looking for flank the center light on both sides. The spoiler itself is reinforced with metal where they attach to it, affixed by screws you must .. screw .. from under/inside the hatch

The illustrated breakdowns are some of the best reference items for assembly and disassembly. A tip I use on airplanes, tracotrs and even Jeeps is to print or make a copy of the sheet and check it off, write the torques for quick reference, ect.

What? Is that for post count only?
I know the sheets that were posted. In fact, the 1ga sheet is where I originally got that part number from. However, the second diagram does not show a similar part, nor is it for the same year. Thats why I am asking any of those that are familiar with this spoiler arrangement what part # those particular clips are.

I know what a checklist is. I have torque specs for every bolt on the vehicle. This is unrelated to either.

This is the clip (broken)

Clip #27 cannot be correct, since it shows only quantity of ONE. There are two needed. The thing is a molded plastic piece with a hex nut in the center. The plastic cracks and doesn't hold the nut from spinning. Very difficult to remove, and it will not be re-useable once you do get it off, since it is usually in pieces.

I checked a couple junkyard cars a couple years ago, they all had the same problem. I suspect the nut and screw get corroded together, enough to spin the nut inside the plastic piece, which breaks it. Unfortunately, there is no way to get any lube to the nut while it is mounted.

I checked with a Mitsubishi dealer, and with a Dodge dealer that used to be an Eagle dealer, and neither could find them in stock or listed as stocked anywhere they had access to. Doesn't mean they aren't sitting in a box somewhere, but they couldn't find them. When I get my mill working, I'll just make it out of metal, I suppose. I may have the part number filed somewhere, but can't find it today. Working on a trans problem right now.

MB196420 is definitely not the clip you are looking for. I just ordered two thinking they are the plastic/nut clip you snapped a picture of but they are a completely different part. As far as I have found, I don't think that clip you are looking for was ever available to purchase separate from an entire new rear spoiler, ie, Chrysler didn't consider it to be a separate part from the spoiler assembly.

Horrible design, if anyone has come up with an alternative means for fixing these I'd love to hear it.
