zero compression on all 4??

ok long story short.head blew replaced it with a head that was just back from the shop.i had to put my valves and stuff it in.got it on the car and it wouldnt start.check the compersion it was zero all the way across.what can cause this?im stumped at this point

resloved valves did not seat

I would double check your timing sounds like it is not right. Did you give the machine shop your valves so they could check them with the work they did with the head? They should have checked to make sure the valves seated correctly against the head/ or valve face

And when your head blew do you mean head gasket or literally your cylinder head?
 
I have to agree. if the valves arent lapped or if they are in the wrong valve seats they'll leak. and if your cam timing is off the valves won't close at the right time thus no compression.
 
my head gasket blew and cracked my head.i bought the head with nothing in just the guides and seals.i took the valves out my old head and swapped them in the new head.they all looked flat when i put them in.
 
silde them in till they sit flat.the put in the spring and retainers.this is the same thing we did to my friends 1g and had no problems
 
Looks can be decieving, You should have had the machine shop check to make sure they seated correctly. I'm not saying it wont work but for zero compression in all of your cylinders it really sounds as if the timing is not right.
 
since these valves were from a different head they dont just lay in the same grove. they wear themselves in different ways. you need to slide them into the guides and then either 1) take it to a shop and have them seated or 2 get some seating oil and a piece of gas line that fits snuggley on the end of the valve. attach the other end to a drill and with the valve into the seat. its not too hard. i can look at home and see what type i used.

Also i agree though. no compression sounds very much like they are wide open during the compression stroke
 
after the headgasket blew i didnt drive the car.so if the timing is right i have to take the head back off to seat the valves?i would figure some off them would seat atleast enough to have some compression.
 
it just called for alarm is all. yes they would seat enough for some compression. The timing is the likely suspect here. When you put the head on the car did you set to to TDC and then set your cams to thier marks? or did you pop it on and hope it was in time? just wondering not accusing
 
even valves that arent lapped would still give you some compression.


either your timing is off so double check that, and if its off too much you may have bent a few valves
 
when i put it back together i lined up the cams then did the oil pump, then the crank.the only thing i can think is i used the wrong marks or while the valves didnt seat.when i can get to the car (its in a friend garage i will double check it.
 
If you haven't done so already go and pick a service manual up. This will help you out with many things. Now to be 100% sure about your valves yes you should have the machine shop do what they do best to match the head up with the valve face angles. But if you are just putting this car together to run as a D/D and don't race alot (being realistic here) then it shouldnt be to much of a problem is this the right answer no but for the situation it's not gonna make your motor blow up or something of that nature. Now if the valves are bent then that would be a big issue. But you will have to pull the timing cover off of the motor to check your timing marks to ensure all of them line up correctly.

I might know what you have done wrong. When you put your cams in the stock cam gears have marks on both sides the ones you line up for timing but the dowel pins on the camshafts must be pointing up if you installed them pointing down your timing is not correct.
 
the car is my dd.im have the timing cover and all that still off.i will double and triple check my timing.what we did was set the timing tension the belt then turn crank 6 times and made sure the all lined back up.
 
well double check that and check that you have the cams in correctly. go back to TDC and check marks again. I really hope you didnt bend any valves ( been through this on my elentra years ago, reseated new valves 4 times in 6 months all from jump time. still never found out why but sold that POS ASAP)
 
pins are up.the oil pump was right its the crank is what im thinking might be off.i didnt time my friend did the crank marks while i did the cams LOL guess i should just did it all
 
im double checking it as soon as i can get to the car.right now i just wanna get running so i can drive on the car trailer.im moving to pa on monday and taking the car with me.if i have to rip it back apart im thinking it might see some upgrades this time.im just worried about how well the evoIII bottom will hold up
 
Lol... Well anyways the EVOIII block is a 4G63 anyways the coolant tube that runs on the block is the only difference between the eclipse/EVOIII I had one on my old car. But let us know whn you find out your timing situation.
 
the car had a full evoIII swap then turbo went and a 14b went on.i replaced the head with a 7bolt head and re used all my old stuff.im gonna re check my timing and go from there.hopefully its off and i can re-do it and all is well.if not well then im gonna be even more broke
