Haha.
If anyone needs parts or welders let me know and I will see what discount I can give you. Have a few hooks ups from a few places.

Nope. Next week it should be. But that's not it.

Boooooo no more Eastwood for me. They are building one an hour from me which means taxes. No thanks.

thanks gamble, but im just a freshman mech engineering student so itd be a few years before i ever get a welder, but i did find out that we have an AWS (american welding society) group here. hopefully ill be able to get into that and weld some stuff LOL.

You dont really "get into" the AWS, thry are just the sanctioned body that takes care of standards and certs in the welding industry. Same with CWB (canadian welding bearu) they are basically copied guidelines from aws which is why they are both interchangeable Between the two countries. I'm CWB in mig and stick 1g and 2g and I'm an american, so if i were to go back to the states they would look at my CWB certs as an equivalent to AWS certs

ahh true. thanks for that. but yeah apparently there is equipment and stuff we can use, so hopefully i can do some of that. and ill be sure to post my first hideous welds here xD

Thats not exactly true. Aside from the codes and standards, the AWS has local districts which have significant involvment in local trade schools and universities. For instance, my district (district 11) has granted millions in scholarships to students of welding and engineering over the past few decades. They also host events and tours to expose highschool students to working environments such as manufacturing plants and also local schooling facilities. Getting involved with your local AWS district is a really good opportunity to gain exposure and find potential employment options.

Nope on my v205. Brad hated the 221 to be honest but he got use to its annoying downslope. I'm not working for him anymore. Not enough time to work on my own stuff while working my full time job and working for him. The pics are all of one of my modded no 90 intakes.

I know what you are talking about. It happens going up in amperage too. It's the software. My thermal arc does it too.

so i went to the AWS meeting. there is such a thing called AWS student membership as that one dude said last page. 15$ for a subscription to some magazine, scholarships and other stuff. itll probs be a few weeks before we get all the other stuff ready and we can start actually welding :(

as for equipment, we got all brand spankin new
-2x miller 252 migs
-2x lincoln precision tig 225s
-1x 252 mig for aluminum only.

There is AWS meetings? I signed up awhile ago for the student thing and the website was horrible and i felt like I got a lot of spam mail so I unsubscribed.

We are apart of the black hills AWS region and i think we are considered a student chapter as were on the list AWS - Student Chapters

i dont think AWS does anything for us though. i mean we could have our own private "welding club" and still do the same stuff. even though we are a chapter, i dont have to pay the 15$ AWS thing to be in this group. so paying the 15$ doesnt necessarily mean there is a section nearby that you can join.

as far as meetings i think the student sections can do pretty much whatever they want. there do seem to be things called "sections" that are more professional groups meant for older people to join.

ehh i dunno this is all pretty confusing.

Poopy mig welding of my trailing arms to eliminate the toe bushings. I think I will use the TIG torch to smooth out those welds

Gamble tip of the day.

Get a filter
Super Dry for Plasma Cutters, Accessories for Welding, Metal Working, Welder Parts | USAWeld.com
Inline Desiccant Dryer/Filter

and install it inline with your argon hose to soak up any moisture in the line. If the tank wasn't vacuumed properly or you are at the bottom of the tank you will see moisture. Also if you see any fuzz or beard on the tungsten this is caused by moisture. Been running this for about 20+ hours of arc time with A+ results. No issues at all!
