So I've seen bunches and bunches of this same questions but I need just a straightup answer pretty much. If I want to go with the Evo III 16G setup, would I be alright with a fuel controller and some 550 cc injectors for it? I have all the regular mods so I'm not just running in with those two pieces in belief that I'll be running ridiculous power. I've heard some people say that the cams need to be replaced along with some engine internals and such and a front mount and an upgraded fuel pump, and then some people have said I am fine with the engine internals and the side mount and the pump will flow an adequate amount.
This is my daily driver and I'm not trying to get the absolute most power blowing out of this thing, just a more substantial amount than my T25 and so I can get rid of this almost 10 year old turbo. After the turbo upgrade I'll be done with performance upgrades, so I won't need to be thinking ahead for anything else.
So to recap, will I be alright with the turbo, an Apex AFC II, and the 550 cc? If not, what else would I need to be able to simply support it?
Sorry for being a pain in the ass for asking this, but thank you for taking the time to answer this question for the millionth time, and hopefully it will be simple enough an answer so that less people will have to ask the same thing over and over again for awhile.

Ben

If your gonna stick with the stock sidemount you might as well go with a T-28, it would make everything that much easier.

You should get a 190lph fuel pump for those injectors.

Yes that should be fine so long as you're not trying to push 18+ psi through that turbo, even though 18+ psi is where that turbo performs best at. Most will say to at least do the fuel pump rewire but you should be good with that to 15psi without worrying about running out of fuel.

I've hit 20 psi several times with no trouble on the stock pump and 560cc evo8 injectors. Not to say the car isn't knocking; I run 17 psi on the street. My 190lph pump will go in soon, and I would recommend the same for you. You will be fine to run the stock pump for a while, though, if you keep the boost low before you install a fuel pump.

at least get a fuel pump. its only 90 bucks man. you might wanna go to 650's. ive heard alot about maxing out 550's. ill have my new setup on this saturday if u wanna pm me i can let you know how things go. (evo3 ported w/ 34mm flapper. 680cc injectors, safc2, pocketlogger, walbro 190).

Alright yall well thanks a lot. That really just simply clears everything up for me, and I hope that some of you with the same questions are all set now as well. I'm definetely not trying to be economic and saving money by going with the cheapest stuff and the least amount of what's needed, I'm just not trying to go all out. Well then that's what I'll do then when I get ready to order. What I learned: Possibly higher than I first believed injectors and for good measures an upgraded fuel pump. Thanks a lot. I really appreciate it.

Ben

Just for the hell of it I'll think about the T-28 as well since I"m sticking most likely with the side mount.

I've got the same setup almost on my 1G when it's back together next week: EvoIII B16G, 2g mani, EVO 02 housing, 550's, AFC-1, 190lph fuel pump for now. but also have a FMIC, 2.5" turboback exh., and 2.5" UICP & TB elbow.

should i upgrade to the 255 pump? i have it in the garage just sitting there, so i probably will. however, will I be able to run 18-20psi with only 550's and the AFC-1? i have an EGT and digital 02 volt meter for tuning, saving up for DSMLink next year.

so is 18-20psi safe on the 190 or 255 with 550's? and should i do a fuel pump rewire on my FWD??

thanks in advance

The 190 is more than enough for 550's. With the 255 you start running into problems like outflowing your FPR and running rich at idle. So unless you are going to be running a 50 trim or larger with some 680 injectors, the 190 will work great. Rewiring it would be a good idea though.

I'd get the t28. The EVO will creep to 20 psi and make you buy FMIC all the other supporting mods in a hurry LOL OMG

my evo creeps to 26psi and is not just gonna make me buy a FMIC but a new engine also. OMG

Or i could just port the piss out of it i suppose

Wow, 26psi? I'd test your accurator rod. My evo evens out at around 6000rpms and drops back down to 19ish after creeaping to 21 or so. That's just nutty.
