Im looking to get off the stockers for both appearance and functionality. I was thinking possibly a 17x8 black with a polished lip. I would like some help deciding tire size, finding a setup that is reasonable, the best places you guys buy from, and making sure I get something that fits..I have been looking at ADR's, Rota's, and ASA's. Im partial to 5 spokes

I have a 92 Tsi FWD (white). I was thinking of going with possibly a 245/40/17 in the front and 225/45/17 in the rear? The offset is something I need help determining, for this I would say somewhere around 35. I have KYB AGX's with Eibach Sportline springs. Car probably dropped around 1.5 all around. I have heard talk about people rolling the fenders..is that just nice talk for beating them back with a hammer? I would rather not, but will if I must. My car is mostly street and strip, but I would like to have a capable car for twistys. I have read a lot in regards to this, but could use a little help and opinions from the wise.

Im sorry this is so long, but I just want to include enough info so I can get some help. Let me know!

Not sure if 1g & 2g are the same but an offset right around 40 works well on a 2g, it keeps things centered. With a smaller 35 offset in an 8" rim I think you will have to do some lip work & may look like the wheels are sticking out too far. Even though your not awd, I would still stick to the same size all around. I would look for something in a 225 to probably 245 width (depending on rim width you end up with)

I'm running Evo VIII wheels with the 38mm offset on 245/45 rubber and they stuck out a good 2" up front before rolling the fenders, pulling them as far out as the bolt-holes allowed and THEN prying them out a bit. I'm still about 1" short of covering them completely. This is with an Eibach pro kit and AGX struts.

With good struts and only a 1" drop they don't rub anymore. With a 2" drop they would be rubbing badly on hard corners.

I also have almost no clearance on the inside of things. The wheels/tires barely clear at multiple points, often with less than 1/4." The tires rub just a tiny bit on the curve going up to support the springs when I'm doing Auto X.

My .02 is this: if you want 17x8 wheels and 245 tires on a 1g, expect to add fender flares or run with coil-overs. There just isn't enough clearance. If you move the wheels in I think you'll end up having to run very low profile tires (under 40).

That said, you may want to go with a 17/7.5 wheel just for clearance and tucking the wheels.

Thanks. I felt the same way, so I did end up going with the 7.5 rim.

Thanks for your help guys

Things I've learned through research. 40 offset is ideal, 38 off set is still good. Going with coilovers (like eclipsh said) is a good idea as the springs have a smaller diameter allowing for more room to play with. Using those offsets with a 225(to 235, maybe even 245)/45/17 and a 1" to 1.5" drop you should be ok in the front but will probably still need to roll the rear. Rolling is super easy. Just need tin snips and something similar to a baseball bat. On the inside of your fender you'll see a lip sticking out. Every inch or so cut about 1/4" to 1/2" (depending on how much room you have to play with), then just use the baseball bat and leverage against the tire pressing the lip inwards.

Oh okay. I was thinking you just beat it in...i guess the tin snips would be a good idea LOL

ROFL

I never cut a thing to roll my fenders. Pagosa DSM and I just used a bed caster stuck in the end of a 2x4 and rolled it back and forth resting on top of the tire. We just went slow and even until the whole thing was rolled up. I cracked my paint but we didn't use a heat gun on it like we should have.
