I got my car with no speakers in the back. I tried fitting two different brands of speakers in it and both of them didn't fit right. I got the depth of the rear speaker holders and from the measurements on pioneers book, they should fit. My question is, is there supposed to be a stock spacer that I could be missing?

There is no stock spacer, if the entire mount is missing then there would be no hole and no mounting space to bolt it down.

You have just suffered and experienced the typical for installing 6x9s in the rear of a 2g.

Depth is REALLY REALLY limited.

I've always recommended to not spend much money on the rear 6x9s due to the fact that sound stage is up front anyways, and if you are getting subs, they just serve for rear fill anyways.

I actually prefer the talons/non-turbo eclipses (without the infinity premium audio option) because they have 6.5" mounts there, which has more options.

oh well if you really want to install 6x9s, your going ot have to make spacers, OR do what many do and hammer down that mount. But watch out if you get spacers, the panel may not fit right if its too big.

Metra makes a 6x9 spacer that might fit in there it is a bout an 1" to an 1 1/2" in thickness, but I myself do have the pioneers in the back but you could look into that route, the part number for these spaces is 82-6900 and if you want to call to order the number to metra is 800 21 0932

Mine have a black plastic surround that the speakers screw to. But even with them you are limited. I took a hammer and massaged the wheel well until I had the depth I wanted. Just do it alittle at a time and you'll be fine. You may notice some of the under coating comes off from the outside in the wheel well. You can respray it with more or paint it black.

I have my JL Audio 6x9"s and love em, they fit perfect and sound great. Of course the mounting wasnt the same, but they still mounted in just fine and look great. (3 way tier speaker)

Did you have to modify the wheel well at all? Also, do you have pics of them installed

I modified the wheel well. All you need it a hammer- not a sledge, just a regular 16oz claw. Whack away until you get enough room. I did it on mine and if you look in the wheel well by the tire you can't even tell. Touch it up with some undercoating and/or paint and you're good to go.

i had the same issure with my infinity speakers i put in. i just took a hammer and dented the metal until it fit without touching. does not cause any problems.

People thought I was crazy when I did it. But it is almost unnoticable. Glad it worked for ya!
