Ok, If i buy the HKS SSQ BOV and vent it to the atomsphere w/o any maf setup or anything like that will it affect my performance in any way?

yes it does because the air has been calculated but it is not there. You end up running very rich, get poor gasmilage, and turbo takes long to spool. In other words DONT DO IT NEWBIE

Yeah, I thought he was funny too... Still , heed the advice because it is 100% correct.
Either get the GM maf and translator or leave things alone. If you vent your valve to the atmosphere, your car will run like crap and stall when you get off the throttle quickly.

The recirc fitting is only 12 dollars and you can source some piping for next to nothing. I ran a 14.9 @ 97 in fwd on the 14b when I vented. It bogs in between shifts and is definately everything else that was posted previously. Its worth 12 bux to get it and it sounds better. Not louder but better.

but what if the car is COMPLETELY unaffected under normal driving and there are no signs of problems with venting? then is it ok?

:dsm:

well, one thing i tried (ran this way for about 6 months until the noise drove me nuts) on my MR2 was to use a 2g BOV attached to the recirculation pipe after the AFM, just like it would be, except the charge pipe end covered with a filter and left open to atmosphere. i had a greddy typeS on the charge pipe, also open to atmosphere. when the mani went to vaccuum, both valves opened. one vented, the other let unmetered air back into the system to compensate somewhat for what was blown off.

to my surprise, it worked great on my MR2 (flapper door type AFM). no more black clouds out the tailpipe between shifts, no stuttering/stumbling between shifts, etc. drove just like it did with the BOV recirculated.

can't guarantee it would work on a DSM though..
