Not all that happy though, if you can believe it. I have a 95 GSX with a 6 bolt in it and there seems a knocking coming from the head. The knocking is only around 2200-2300k RPMs. The car still drives(but i refuse to drive it until this is fixed). There is an abundant of knocking threads so after looking through countless amounts, I felt it would be best to make my own. Let me know what it could be, since it can be so many things. I'm kind of hoping its possible that its just the valves?? I really don't know though, thanks for looking guys.

I've never been good at answering these threads, but alot of times it ends with someone suggesting you post a video, since there are many sounds that can be distinguished by a trained tuner's ears.

There are only so many things in the head, but what makes you so sure its coming from there? Are you reving the engine to the mentioned rpms and it happens, or while under load?

Does it happen at above those rpms? or is it only while holding the rpms steady at that particular point. I think a few more questions needs to be answered before anyone at my level of understanding would be able to help out.

Good luck in finding it; I hate stupid issues like this. My friends always come to me hoping I have the answers to them all ha!

Yeah, I understand these are very difficult to understand over the internet. But the knocking occurs when holding it at around those RPM's. The sound is completely non-existant when its above or below those RPM's, its fine at idle.

What "kind" of knock? (clanking, clunking, ticking, etc.)

Try to describe how much weight the sound has...if that makes sense. For example, injectors have a very thin sounding tick, while lifter tick is a bit heavier. Both of these are normal for a DSM.

If it's a heavy clunking sound, something is definitely not right.

Engine sounds have a way of showing up in places totally unrelated to where they are coming from. "Heavy" knocking would most likely be in the bottom of the engine...get underneath and see if you can hear it better from the oil pan area.

Buy a $10 mechanic's stethoscope ... it will help immensely with figuring out where it's coming from.

I would have to agree with him. There are plenty of different types of knocking sounds. Could be injectors, lifters,...

Try to find where exactly the noise is radiating. A get a stethoscope or you can use a piece of wood (trust me it works) and move it around to see where the sound it coming from.

Does it happen when you are driving in higher gears around 2200 rpm and when you press on the gas? Alot of cars have what appears to be a grinding noise from the valves when you are at lower rpms and try to go fast. If once you keep picking up speed it disappears, and its not there when you rev it in neutral, then its probably the above mentioned stupid valve noise. Nothing bad.

no, its there when revving in neutral. And I wouldn't say that it's a heavy clunking, but doesnt sound to be as soft as a ticking, i'm going to try to get a video tomorrow and I'll get a piece of wood tomorrow as there's snow on the ground today.
