I had a ridiculous grinding noise going on and now after the shop has diagnosed the problem, they say my tranny is fine, but it's my transfer case. The only problem is that they say a new transfer case is ridiculously expensive and they're trying to find me a used transfer case. I looked in classifieds but found nothing. The mechanic said a new transfer case is about 2Gs.

I would personally have a bad tranny over a bad transfer case as you can get a rebuild and then some for less then 1k unlike the transfer case....

Isn't it only for the 1g's?

It is for all awd models going up to mid 1998.

In the worst case do it by yourself. It is just a seal for 10$ (scroll down). Just to be safe you know....
