I was told it locks the viscous coupler. Can someone please explain wtf this is? IT came with my most recent edition to the family. A Black 97 GSX that was done up by RRE.

LOL Nevermind, I seem to have found out its a Viscous Coupling Eliminator.

However my next question is. How does it install and bla bla bla, Just all out details. I know I hate the VC... I was offroading once, last year and noticed that the car's AWD system sucks. The one tire that has traction doesn't move, the others that don't have traction slip all over the place and the car goes no where.

I know Evo's and STI's don't have this pile of Junk. But my real question now is, If I install this Eliminator, what will happen? Will it fully lock all 4's? Or what? On the Front VC its not part of the Center or Front Diff. But the Rear Diff, its inside?

So if I install this, what am I going to gain? What am I going to lose?

Normally, the viscous coupling eliminator is used to lock the center differential as a temporary solution for dyno-tuning a vehicle in FWD mode with the transfer case and driveshaft removed. The VCE holds the output shaft in place with a fresh snapring, and "locks" the center differential upper pinion gear and the output shaft therefore locking the center differential (and spider gears) as if it was a welded differential. This is only a temporary solution and can cause more harm than good if left in the transmission and driven on a 2-spider center differential as you will hand-grenade the spider gears very quickly with some spirited driving.

The VCE is handy also for removing extra weight off the drivetrain if you already have a welded center differential in the transmission as it removes the 10# viscous coupler and replaces it with a 1# piece of steel, a detent ball and a snapring. The detent ball is retained to hold the output shaft in place. Without the detent ball installed, there is nothing to hold the output shaft in place with a viscous coupler or viscous coupler eliminator installed when the transfer case is removed.

I know about the Detent Ball. Had to remove a Output shaft once upon a time to install in a different transmission.

Now that I have that info I wont use it the way I was thinking. But I will keep it for Dyno Days. There is only one AWD Dyno in the state and I've heard bad things about that company so I wont bring it there. I can just bring the car to the popular shop near by, The Dyno Edge.
