Well i have been spending the better [art of the year trying to get my Talon back to par! A HG blown, broken Timing Belt, CPS problems, the list goes on. After getting the car running and driving, 2 days later my clutch started acting funny. The car would die when i put the clutch in no matter what gear it was in. It now wont even start, here is a video to help explain.
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/a1zS7D9vnQM&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/a1zS7D9vnQM&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

So i checked for CW by visually expecting movement in the belts with clutch action, and checking oil for metal. Good news both checked fine. So i decided id check my Slave cylinder again, while moving it i heard a "clink clink" So i took the rod out, the transmission sub frame out, and the boots that cover the shift fork out. This is what i found, WTF is this, please help.

Its hard to tell what that used to be. Your going to have to pull the tranny either way id say. Its looks like the shim the goes between the bellhousing and block. The starter bolts through it but it could be part of the clutch too. The springs broke on my NT I had and it start making a lot of racket before it went. It would disengage the clutch and eventually it wouldnt start I tore into it to find the clutch had came apart and locked up the tranny so the motor would turn over.

I am obviously going to take the tranny off eventually, was just hoping someone might have a good idea on what and how that happened. And what parts i need to stock up on before i start this project. I would like to have the parts before i start pulling it apart. Or atleast have an idea of how much and what im gunna have to chenge. Money is a HUGE issue here. My pregnant fiancee hates my car, and to her the last straw was a few months ago, now this. Im not giving up on my girl though, i know shell boost again!

In the first pic it looks like your tob (throw out bearing) is destroyed. That piece is probably part of it.

YOU will need new clutch and tob, new or resurface the flywheel and you might as well get a new fork and pivot ball while you are at it.

I am using the dreaded ACT TOB. Could the TOB cause ne more damage then just to the clutch and flywheel? Im trying to come up with a comprehensive list of things ill need to change this out in the garage. More help greatly appreciated!

Basically i'd change the TOB, possibly the retaining clip, maybe the clutch fork, and definetely the fulcrum ball. As for damage? It could have damaged the input shaft. Probably not though. Always use OEM tob's.

Speaking of more damage, i noticed while i had the car on the lift, if i turn driver side wheel it makes a clicking chinking sound that i know it didn't used to. It still spins the back tire like normal and the noise comes from the front side.

I plan on using a OEM TOB for the new setup after i decide what to get. I dont know if i want to just get a full clutch kit, or take the trannie off and see what is salvageable.

I actually just had this sort of issue about a year ago.

Be ready for carnage. There's a definite possibility your bell housing is gonna need to be replaced.

I had a TOB go out on me and it absolutely destroyed the clutch and housing.

TOB's completely failing is never pretty.

I hope mine looks nothing like that bad. This will be doing my first time doing this myself. Got the car lifted up with no Trans Jack so i know its gunna be a pain. I also dont have any help. How did urs fail, under what kinda driving conditions? I was cruising lightly started having problems getting into gear, finally got home and pressed the clutch in and the car died. It has been tried to start maybe 15 times sence then. Im hoping the damage is horrible.

Just a bad TOB. It had started to make noise (as a TOB usually does at looses lubrication in the bearings) so I parked it. I decided to run down the street a few days later and I couldn't get it out or in any gear. I had to shut it off, put it in first, start the car and immediately hit the gas. Clutch wasn't disengaging.

When I got it back to the house I heard something shatter. Never got over 5mph the whole time.

That stupid $15 part set me back almost $600 worth of parts and labor.

That is very similar to what i had to do, but when i turned it off and put it in first then tried to hold the clutch to start it it tried to roll. It sucked getting it home, i cant even get the engine to turn over, when i push the clutch while turning it over, the turning almost stops. I can hopefully do half of your 600 by doing it all myself.

Man that looks bad, OEM ToB for sure.
There is a collar that the ToB rides on, I've seen one that bound up on the ToB and pushed into the clutch so the clutch wouldn't disengange. I would order a new one of those and put in in there while you have it all apart.

Yea, yours is doing the same thing mine did. The reason it bucks like that is because when you push the clutch, nothing is happening in the bell housing. The clutch disk isn't being separated from the pressure plate. You might be luck and it just be a broken fork. But be ready for bad news judging from that little piece you pulled out.

And I only payed $50 of that in labor for a guy to assemble the new tranny for me. The rest was a new clutch, flywheel, TOB, fork, pivot, and bell housing and speed sensor and I did that myself.

I hate to say it, dude. But think you're looking at an expensive repair.

I broke my ACT TOB not to long ago thats how I Knew what that was I took my Tranny off and everything was just fine I put in a OEM TOB and put the car back together and it runs just fine.
I also Have a unsprung 6 puck.

Well i was looking at an F1 clutch kit with an OEM TOB. They have some pretty decent looking kits for under 200. Im really hoping there is no bell house damage or flywheel damage that cant be turned.

Where and how much could i get one of these for?
