I just wanted to get a quick sanity check on this, the below gasket does not fit the pictured block, right?

I'm doubting myself because the one pictured is one I bought online from a reputable vendor, and I've also looked at online pictures from a number of local parts stores and their pictures seem to match what I received. (I've already emailed the vendor I got mine from, but don't expect to hear back until tomorrow).

Lol.. Samething happend to me i was freaking out. I then figured out that theres only one 4G63 head gasket, there isnt like a 2G head gasket or 1G etc.. If you want to look at a picture and match up your holes so you can see, hears a link to an OEM 4G63 head gasket image. I compared it to your second image.. Goodluck with your build

:hmm:

OK, that makes me feel a little better, but it still feels wrong! Anybody else care to chime in? Why would they have ports on the block, then just plug them with a gasket with no openings (Pic #1)? Or have ports on the block and then holes 1/2 that size on the gasket (Pic #2)?

I searched for quite a while yesterday and didn't see any other posts of people running into this. I just want to be 100% sure before I slap that gasket on this afternoon.

well some of the "extra" ports in the block is so they can get the sand cast mold from inside the block after it is cast (same reason for the so called freeze plugs)

some ports are blocked by the gasket so it will controll where and how much coolent is flowed

your new gasket looks fine, if you want to feel better, go lay it over the old HG or another stock replacement one

Bogus SVO is correct, Some ports are from the manufacturing process, and the gasket does control water flow, through some ports.....
