This morning I installed my 3" Dejon Tool Intake pipe that I just bought. In the process, I hacked the MAF and got rid of that restrictive air cleaner canister; and also gave her a nice oil change. I can honestly say that I have noticed a difference. Not much, but some. I'd post a pic of what it all looks like, but I don't know how. Anyways, that tech guide is really helping. Should I do some more to the exhaust, just a muffler at the moment, or keep working underhood?:dsm:

Go for the exhaust. A 3" turbo back should be the #1 mod on everyone's list. It makes a night and day difference.:thumb:

just follow the guide your biggest hp increase will be your exhaust. Do the free mods also if you haven't rewire that fuel pump also have fun!! :thumb:

btw why do you have Pilot Motorsports Shift Knob, Stock Clutch w/slave cylinder under your profile as a mod? Just curious especially the stock clutch

Do you have a problem with people listing shift knobs as a mod? I have a GReddy counter weight knob, I'm gona go add it to my mod list just to annoy you.:p ROFL

I think you might regret hacking that MAF. I'm not a supporter of that at all.

Yes I do!!! jk, jk  Why arent you a supporter of the hacked mass?

his car is a 2nd gen anyway so he wouldnt have to concern himself with it thats why... but i definitly say do the exhaust , honestly that should be anycars first mod because you can only get in what you get out right.... well i think you should always start backwards and work your way to the engine... exhaust would give you a great power increase and a nice little sound to it if its done right and made sure that it wasnt obnoxiously loud, ( which i dont like my car loud loud because it only draws more attention to the cops if i get on it ) but consider that, and also look into tuning devices and fuel mods so you can raise boost... always a big plus!!

Come on bro, it has the word "hack" in it. That should tell you right there.:notgood: Because that's exactly what it is, a hack. That honeycomb is there for a reason. If you're hitting fuel cut (and he's not) get injectors and an AFC or DSM link and do it right. If you're doing it for extra "flow", then I'm going to smack you right now. *WACK!*

for some reason on my car removing the lower honeycomb caused my car to stall everytime i came to a stop. i had 2 hacked 1g mas and they both caused the same problem. even after resetting the idle by centering the isc i still had the same problem. i just decided to go the gm maf route and get rid of the headache. the only way i could get the car to run right with the hacked mas was to put a section of screen door material over the lower part of the mas. by removing the lower honeycomb you are letting alot more unmetered air into the engine which could cause a very lean condition at idle. with the hacked mas my o2 volts on my datalogger would not fluctuate and would stay at a steady .00-.02 volts. has this same thing happened to anyone else?

Don't know why, just felt like it. I didn't do the clutch, it was new when I bought the car 8 months ago.

About the hacked maf, I don't really have any more idle problems then what I've already had with it. (200 rpm fluctuation when warm)

I've got both a hacked and an unhacked MAS. I ran the hacked for a little while, then switched over. Hacked seems to give a slightly stronger top end, but the difference in low and midrange torque is HUGE. Hacked, it feels like the car can barely manage to get itself moving. Unhacked, it takes off easily.

I cant see hacking a MAS making that much of a difference. I'd say any "huge" difference made by removing a piece of honeycomb is all in your head.
