I had a crack in my valve cover and I took it off and used some JB weld on it. I put the valve cover back on, did a boost leak test and all seemed good. Took the car around the block and came back and had oil all over the engine, not to mention vacuum at 10 in/hg. It's coming from the side of my valve cover on the passenger side. Apparently I didn't put the gasket back on correctly, and there is about a half inch gap between the head and the valve cover? The valve cover is obviously on correct, but is there more than one way to put the gasket in?

There's a half moon that needs to go back on, but it sounds like you have a double up of the spark plug gaskets to me. Take the valve cover off(that jb weld will melt anyway), and clean the head completely of oil/gasket crap. Then make sure you have everywhere covered with a gasket that needs it, and add a little in the corners of the mating surfaces.

Sounds like the gasket didn't seal right and with a gap in between the cover and head there's no wonder. I would suggest finding another valve cover and depending on how old the gasket is, a new one of those also. It doesn't hurt to put a little dab of silicone on the corners of the gasket to ensure it gets held in place and a good seal.

Well it was that half moon looking thing that I didn't realize was there. I put that back in. And what do you mean the JB weld will melt? People on here tell me they use it on everything.
