Well its crunch time and I need to decide if I am going to paint the 2g, the car itself has no real rust just some on the door edge where rocks caught it and a little on the insides of the wheel wells again from rocks.

So I got quoted about 5000$ for a color change (paid 6100$ for the car:|) but this would be proper in and out color change with the door jams and everything done, the color I was quoted this for is the stock evo electric pearl blue with the talon blackout roof.

Keeping the stock green and not painting the jams just the ouside of the car would be 3500$.

Think its worth it?

Keep in mind body work in canada is sadly way more expensive then states.

All I can say is if you love your 2GB talon, my fav, and plan to keep it for a long time or make a profit to sell, then go for it :D

What is the exchanged rate at these days? It would run me about 5grand to get the car stripped, prepped, and painted the "proper" way.

Could have it done for 2 if I did the stripping and prep work.

Doing all the body work yourself saves you alot alot of money when going to get it painted, I'm thinking about painting my 1G that I paid $1500 for...Fresh paint makes the value go up alot too if if you plan on selling it..

although what dsm boosted said is very true, doing all the bodywouk yourself requires alot of skill in the trade. i would recommend haing it professionally done. it will look much better in the end.

Even if you decide to do the body/prep work yourself... every painter is different and that painter might want to redo some of the prep work... especially when its their name out there in the end. They want to make sure the outcome is to their satisfaction and not just "ok"

$5k is about right for a very good quality paint job, complete color change that is... in the end its your car and if you've got the money, why not

Personally, I wouldn't pay over $3,000... and you can get a crap load of performance parts for 3 grand. If it's a show or a weekend driver, then it's a different story. You'll be extremely pissed off if some kid at WalMart accidentally drives his "cart" on your $5000 paint job!

You could take your car to another shop and have them paint the door jams and the rest of the interior stuff black. That way, if you decide to repaint your car a different color, you don't have to redo everything.

If you would try to paint it yourself, you truly want to make sure you practice on something else before. Say you mess up then you have spent money on paint and supplies and are ending up going to have to have a professional fix and redo it. If you were to go around to other shops and tell them how much you were quoted somewhere else they might give you a better deal. Do as much of the easy prep work as you can though like the others have said.

Repaint it the original color! That way you won't have to repaint the door jams and all that stuff, and maybe save some money. $5,000 sounds ridiculous, I bet you could get a quote somewhere between $2,000 and $3,000.

That is correct, it's the same price my father paid last summer to have his camaro repainted by one of the best shops in this area. With the amount being charged you should be able to go over the car with a magnifying glass afterwards and not find a spec of dust, bugs, or a run of paint. If that's the quality you want it will run that ballpark, otherwise an all around shop should be able to cut it in half.

If prices are that bad, I'd take a trip to the states and get it painted. Maybe 2500-3000 bucks down here for a good one. Thats if you dont want to do it yourself...

Hats the reasoning for the change? Showroom paint? 5k is alot depending on where you live. I'd restore to factory paint and not look back.

Dude, paint your car. You won't regret it. If you want to save money do the same color.

Well if you have the money go for it.. thats like the price of the car though.. It doesnt cost to much for a compressor.. and a "3-spray gun" kit for primer clear coat and actual paint.. Stripping your interior wouldnt be that bad to paint things.. the engine bay would kind of suck.. but just the outside for 3000? Thats a lot of damn money.. Theres tons of tutorials on how to do it yourself.. It might be a little work.. but I mean like I said if your rich yes.. if not definitely a big no!

If you're asking for opinions, I say paint it. I'm not a fan of the green unless it's flawless and if you paint part of it you can't leave part.

IMO I wouldn't paint it for that much. I much rather spend it on something performance or maintenance wise. Just my opinion though.

Yeah spend it on performance if the paint is good condition.. the faster the better :thumb:

I'd say do it yourself. Just take your time. Sure a new paint job can up the value of the car, but not nealy the cost of the paint job. I'd only pay 5K for a paint job if I can an old Camaro, Chevelle, Corvette... (a car worth 30K) that needed a paintjob. If you plan to DD the car, I wouldn't spend that much on paint ### rocks will hit it, gravel roads, harsh weather... it'll drive you nuts. Do you have any pics of how the car looks now?
