Ok we'll I have searched for about an hour now. I'm pretty new to dsms I bought a 1990 gst a month ago not running. I replaced the timing belt and water pump cleaned the gas tank and put in a walbro 190 while I was in there evething else on the car is stock. Like the title says I got it to start but it won't idle and will only rev to 3000 . Any ideas would be help full thanks

Yeah timming is dead on . I'll try some mad cleaner and go from there thanks

Cleaned the maf didn't help

fiav. lower section of the tb. is open which allows air to pass around the throttle plate when it's closed. Happened to my 92 n/a 94mm tb. Take your tb off and try blowing through it with your mouth, just make sure the ics is blocked with your finger and throttle plate is closed.

Did you do a boost leak test and do you have all the vacuum lines on properly? Maybe you knocked the vac line off the fpr when doing the timing. And are you positive the timing is dead on can we see pics if possible of timing marks?

Ok after some checking all vacum lines are conected as the Haynes Manuel says they should be . But back to the timming the mark on my crank is off at tdc it's past the mark on the case by almost 2 inches . I set it to tdc when I put the belt on with the dowel pins up on the cams and the together in the center . I rolled it over 20 or so times till it all lined up again some one had marked the crank with a paint marker before I got it

And yes I tried it first at the oem marks and it wouldn't roll over with the wrench . That's when I put a wood dowel in the number 1 cylinder and found tdc wich matched the paint dot that someone before me made

Im pretty sure its Mechanically on time cams were timmed up at tdc . And it's runs pretty good between 1500 and 3000 just want idle or go over 3000 I'm sure it would run ruff if it was out of time but I my be wrong . I'm new . Sorry for the confusion I'm also new to the whole forum thing also

And would a boost leak cause it not to idle ?

Have you done an compression test to make sure your motor is solid first. since it wasn't running when you got it and you had to do a timing belt already and its not getting correct power. If that timing belt came off when the previous owner it usually will do damage. My friend had a problem it wouldn't idle and then could only get a small amount of power out of it. so check compression to make sure your dealing with a strong motor before buying a bunch of other parts.

I had a similar problem with my gsx. Turned out to be my throttle cable had came off the small channel guide at the throttle body. It kept my throttle partially open slightly causing it to rev steady at around 3000 rpm. Could be as simple as that.

Start off with the basics make sure all vacuum is good. Boost leak test. Yes it will cause it no to idle and yes you will experience fuel cut. Make sure your timing is perfect.

Ok guys thanks for the replays . I have checked all the vacum lines and did a boost leak test last night . Has no leaks I pulled off the heat shields over the turbo and saw I was missing two nuts off of the manifold and the rest were lose . Right As my wife started yelling at me for being in the shop for 4 hours .so I didn't have time to tighten everything up and try it . Could that have been my problem
