wont go into 5th gear 91 eclipse gsx

for some reason my car wont go into 5th gear all the sudden it goes about half way in and wont budge. it happened a few days ago so i tryed moving it under the hood and ended up ramming the shifter into 5th but then a few days later it does it again but now i cant get it into 5th. i hardly ever use 5th unless its the freeway anybody have any ideas?

i dont know for sure but sounds like a linkage problem. make sure nothings in the way and that its not rusted. it could also be a synchro. try double clutching into 5th

i agree, you might want to have the linkage checked and the syncros could be bad or even gone
