Hey everyone,
Sheww my car is such a mess...
I hope someone has had this problem and may be able to help me....I put a rebuilt engine I got from a shop in my car but now when I give it gas it wont go anywhere until it reaches about 2,000 RPM and even then it just creeps along.

Well, let me try to explain that again LOL sorry....
when I first touch the gas the car dosnt want to go but as i push harder on the gas and it revs up to about 2000 RPM the car kicks really hard into gear and gose but it stutters at first.........I noticed that if I let the car warm up for about 30 min or so then it works fine.

I dont know if im explaning that right or if this is the right forum to post this, but thanks for any help anyone can give me.

Can you clarify what the problem is?? Do you have an automatic transmission? Do you think its the engine or the transmission? From what your describing it sounds like a big boost leak but idk what to tell you i need more info first.

Do you have a logger so you can see what's going on? When the engine is warmed up it will be in closed loop mode, making necessary adjustments to the A/F ratio. I'd be surprised if your fuel trims aren't WAY OFF. Your tune is just way off for some reason, electrical or mechanical issue of some kind maybe. Boost leak, fuel pressure, sticky injector, wire loose or off, bad sensor - maybe even just the engine coolant temp sensor, etc.

Let us know what your logger says, and also what you are tuning with and more info about your setup.

My car is an auto...and I do have a boost leak coming from the manifold that I will fix tomorrow if I get time.

Sounds to me like the transmission is burnt up. You might want to make sure there is enough fluid in it, also make sure if it has not had a fluid change in a long time to go buy a transmission filter, some fluid (what is required for your tranny) and drain the tranny, take off the pan, change the filter, and put it back together and put the right amount of fluid in it. It's very possible the clutches are burnt up and will need a rebuild, or replaced.

On the 2GNT Auto the TCU will go into LIMP MODE if the tranny has low fluid or any other issues. In Limp mode the car will stay stuck in 2nd gear. Are you stuck in second gear?

Sounds like a bad torque converter to me. You probably will need a Tranny rebuild soon :(

The Auto's in the GS seem to need rebuilt after 100,000 miles. I used to have one.

The only thing you can maybe try is to flush out the tranny and torque converter, And replace with new ATF+3 Fluid.

revs up to about 2000 RPM the car kicks really hard into gear

This is a sign that it is slipping and once the fluid pressure builds up it slams into gear, very bad on the tranny.

Also, Limp Mode keeps the transmission from shifting past 2nd gear. It will still have Reverse, 1st, and 2nd gear but will not go into 3rd, and or (overdrive). When the transmission is in "limp mode" it usually is because of the shift solenoid acting up, or has been the usual in most of our Dodge/Mitsu transmissions.

Would a boost leak coming from the manifold cause it to do this?
The trans worked great before I put a rebuilt moter I got from a shop in it, so Im hoping it is just a bad boost leak.

How bad is the leak?
When it starts to go does it make any bad noises like metal on metal?
Does the car bog until it reaches 2000rpm or does the trans just not grab until 2000rpm
If it kicks in like you said and it sounds bad i think its a trans problem

Yea, the Trans doesn't grab until 2000rpm.

I dont think there is anything wrong with the trans. because before I put in a new rebuilt engine I brought the trans. worked fine.
So I dont see why the trans. would go bad because I put in a rebuilt moter.

Im hoping/thinking its the really bad exhaust leak in the manifold...but I dont see how that would effect the trans. problem really.

Anyone have any ideas?

Ever thought of a CTS? My car is a manual but I know when it was cold and sometimes when it was warm it would sputter till about 2k then kick and ran fine. If I let it sit and warm for say 20 minutes it would run like a top. Mines a 1G but all fuel injections systems work the same.

You are saying "yeah, the Trans does not grab until 2000rpm"

Then you are saying "I don't think there is anything wrong with the trans"?
If it's not grabbing till 2000 rpm then you HAVE a tranny problem.

I suggested the torque converter because that sits in between the Engine and the tranny in the bell housing. A torque converter uses Fluid Coupling instead of a clutch like a manual trans. So if you are LOW on fluid or the pump is not pumping properly, the torque converter will not fill up all the way, or too slow.
A lot of times people put Dexron III trans fluid in these cars which is the WRONG fluid. Its Much thicker than our ATF+3 or ATF+4. The thicker fluid will slow down the action of the soleniods/pump and torque converter. That's why if your cars warms up for 30 minutes your problem seems to go away. You are warming the fluid up and that helps it flow easier.

I have seen this happen first hand. That is why I reccomended Flushing the trans and torque converter, then refill with new ATF+3 fluid.

Because parts love to fail at the same time, it's more fun that way. Seriously, parts fail all the time at coincidental times, or for "no reason". It's better not to make assumptions (ie. "this part was working before, so it must be working now") and just go back to basics... if the tranny is failing, check the tranny. Checking/changing fluid is really easy compared to other things it might be.

My money's on the tranny fluid or a failed tranny, like everyone else above. I'm guessing it worked fine before, but was on its way out and all the stress of the motor change killed it. Or (hopefully) during the swap the fluid leaked or a sensor got knocked out of place, and fixing either will let it work like before. Good luck!

Maybe the NT is different because when Mine went into limp mode I just had 2nd gear and reverse...NO 1st or 3rd. It just started in second gear.

Yea same thing happened to me. 2nd gear and reverse ONLY. And once it REALLY wanted to shift... which was rare... the car wuld jump and go down to 1st, 2nd, then 3rd. Crazy & Scary stuff.

CHANGE THE TRANNY FLUID! Its not hard & its cheap. If that doesnt fix it... take the motor back to the shop?! Dont they test the motor there anyway?? & if its not the motor.... what could i be? I just dont know..... TRANNY. So stop :beatentodeath:
