Wonder why your knockoff Type S leaks?

Wow, how much boost were you running? Some kid i know just got one on his 240sx. I was surprised at its apparently decent construction, however, that could be a problem.

22psi. The diaphragm is designed in such a way that it is sleeved between the body of the BOV and a cylinder that moves up and down as the valve opens/closes. This repeated action, in combination with a 90* bend in the diaphragm, led to the tear. From the outside, it looks pretty good. I'd have him pull it apart in a couple months and check the nut, that holds down the metal cap/washer that keeps the diaphragm in place. Mine was loose inside the valve when I finally replaced the BOV. And the nut even has a nylon insert :notgood:

The Diaphrams tear in the Authentic version too...

Yeah, I've read this too. But, I didn't want to take a chance on the authentic replacement diaphragm not working quite right with my knockoff valve. And I'm flanged for GReddy at this point.

Having seen a photo of the real diaphragm, compared to the torn knockoff I have in hand, I decided that there was enough difference that I'd give the real one a shot. Didn't look like there's the same kind of interference between valve/body and the rubber diaphragm in the photo. But I'll know for sure later, when I pull it apart to rotate the hat.

Even if the authentic Greddy diaphragm would fit, it's probably cheaper to just buy a new knockoff unit anyway.

In the end, I feel you've done the right thing.

The greddy diaphram works

And they also tear like the knock off's

I woulda fixed that one instead of getting a RS

ok i have to ask this i just got one from a friend and im only using it because he let me borrow and upper ic pipe that works with my maft. but its flanged for the greddy bov so i have to use it. i installed it and noticed theres a pin hole in the black of the bov itself that shouldnt be there correct? its one hell of a boost leak inst?

my old genuine RS was a POS :barf:. I went through 2 diaphragm in less than a year. That little piece of rubber costs $60 from Greddy! After refusing to spend another $60, I got a knock-off S. Which lasted well over a year with no leak. Then i came across a real Type-S which is what i have now. I will never buy a Greddy RS again :notgood:

Tru the RS is a garbage blow off. I buy all the type s bovs i can just cause i hate the RS. I also have a knockoff and have had no issues.
