I seized my td05h 20g last night. I dont know what caused it though. It didnt smoke or make any noises, it just seized on the highway. I was running about 22 psi on pump gas ( no knock) and sometimes it would spike up to 25 then drop back down. I can not move the compressor wheel at all. the car drives but doesnt boost. I am going to pull it out tommorow and check it but I just think it didnt like all that boost. any insight?

Yea, I am pretty sure the bearings are shot because the compressor housing and wheel looks fine. My question is why? The top of the exhaust manifold was glowing red so I know it got really hot. I am going to take it apart in a few days and then let you guys know whats up with it. I am just hoping it isnt oil starvation. I guess it doesnt matter. My new turbo will be fed off of the oil filter housing. I ordered the bullseye t04b kit (vtrim) I will let yall know how that goes as well.

Definitely let us know how it compares with your old 20g. That would be incredibly useful info.

Just ran across your thread. I would definitely find out what happened to your 20g before you crank up this new T04B. If there's an oiling problem you dont want to have 2 "toasty" turbos laying around. If you'd like to box it up and get it to me we can break it down and tell you for sure what went wrong, no charge of course.

definitly.

Well, I cant really take the turbo off right now. I am still driving the car with the turbo seized. I dont get any extra smoke from the turbo being blown, just slow. My car was cutting out really bad that night and a friend of mine said that my car shot a huge flame. I found out that my tps connector came loose and caused my backfiring. I have been driving the car for almost a month with no problem. I blew the turbo the same day i hooked up the boost controller and started making some power. I ran up to 28 lbs of boost with it before with no problem but thats because i had some serious timing issues causing me to not have any timing advance, therefore slow. I might take it to a local shop the next day just to get it looked at. but I cant pull it off till I get the new one. There isnt a bus that runs me to work and my friends are too far away to take me to work and pick me up from work.

Call me when you get the 20g off your car and I'll see if I can meet you so we can break it down before you crank up the new one.

I should get the turbo wednesday night at the latest from what ups tracing says. I will take the turbo off after work on wednesday and take thursday off so I have time to mess with it. If you want, I could pm you with my number so we could talk on the phone. By the way, do you ever go on jaxstreetscene.com?

when the turbo was converted into a 20g was it ever balanced?

First off, If it died of starvation then here are a few things to keep in mind.
1. I was running 5-20 synthetic blend motor craft oil (cause it was free)
2. I was running oil feed from the head, with the new feed line, it will be off the filter housing
3.High egt's could have cooked the oil in the turbo while running it.

I dont think it is an oil preasure problem, more like a heat problem. i was running that turbo upwards or 25 psi at times when I was getting no timing advance. The day i get my car to make good power, thats when it took a crap on me. I dont know too much about that turbo, I bought it from a friend that used it and he bought it off of a first gen laser. That turbo could have been old as crap and on its way out anyway.

Pulled the turbo apart tonight. The bearings are seized, the wheels and the housings are fine, no collision. I am thinking now that I may have been running too much boost on that thing (sometimes spiking up to 26 psi) because all the gaskets were toast and white colored. I wonder if high timing would play a role in the death also? I advanced my base timing a lil bit but I didnt see any knock on the keydiver knock gauge(stock boost gauge) so I wasnt worried about it. Then I saw the center of the exhaust manifold glowing red like I never saw before, it made me wonder. Anyone have any ideas?

I have a couple ideas. You might have shut it down before letting the turbo cool off. A hot shutdown can melt the brass bushings to the shaft.

Backfires can hurt a turbo if they're severe, as in loud, sharp backfires.

Yea, that could be a strong possibility. My tps connector came loose right before I got on the highway where the turbo blew and the engine was cutting out pretty bad.

I took it all apart, The only thing good on it is the exhaust housing and the compressor housing. I am going to find out how much they are worth and post it on dsm trader.
