Ok so here's the deal. I bought the Kiggly SFI 29.1 7 bolt flexplate as soon as i came out a couple months ago and I'm jus finally getting to install one of my engines into my AWD.

The problem is that everything binds up once I get the last (4th) converter bolt about 3/4 of way in ..... Once i loosen that bolt or take it out then everything unbinds slightly, then once i get the 2nd out of the 4 bolts loose/out it will unbinds even more and so on and so forth as i remove the rest of the bolts.

What is going wrong or what am I doing wrong to Install this???

I was informed the flexplates only bolt up one Way on the 4 bolt pattern, is this correct?

I was told to remove all the bolts, spin the converter 1/4 turn and start the sequence of installing and tightening them again. If it binded like it already did before then i was told I was to take all 4 back out again and repeat the 1/4 of a turn on the converter and the rest of the process until it finally wouldn't bind and all 4 of the flexplate bolts were installed.

Did the tc have rust or crud on the hub that slides into the crank? Did you put some grease on the tc hub? How did the trans go back in? Easy, or was there bellhouse to flex plate contact? Are all the trans bolts to the block tight? Did you have to slide the converter out to meet the flexplate once the trans was bolted up?

Are you 100% sure your torque convertor is fully installed? It doesn't sound like it.

The trans was already in the car when I bought it and torque converter was sunk in about 1/2" from the end of the bellhousing so it seemed as tho it was installed all the way and when i pushed on it, it acted like it was on all the way. No movement inwards or any play, it was solid when i shoved on it.

I didn't put grease on the tc hub and i had wire wheeled all the spots off the hub b4 I got engine ready to install.... All the trans to block bolts WERE tight but i loosened them to give me a little more movement from the tc so i could get it unbinded....

How do I know of the tc is seated all the way??

The engine and trans are now bolted together and I really don't wanna spend another 2 days working to uninstall and then Install it myself. I'm working or gravel and dirt and that makes it a major pain to try to get work done

Well i contacted Kiggly himself and tried to explain my situation the best I could, and even he wasn't sure What was causing everything to bind, or if it was contacting something...

For all other people considering a 2g 7 bolt flexplate, you will HAVE to clearance the rear main housing (which I didn't do :nono: :ohdamn:) as the 4 bolt heads for the torque converter will hit (or so i am told). We will see for sure what is making contact when the weather warms up and i can split the engine and trans and pull the engine up to check.
