My question is has anyone else tried to wire an intake air temp sensor into the signal wire instead of the constant 80degree temp signal sent by the maf translator?

I am concerned about this mostly because I live in Washington state and the temperature in the morning when I go to work is so much lower than when I get off that I have to retune the airflow signal when I go to work and when I get off from work.

I read a thread that had thought that they had solved it in 2005 and that the mass air flow sensor detected air temperature but GM MAF sensors use a seperate IAT sensor so that can't be true. I tried to wire a IAT in and it worked but the translator flashed a code 6 which ment it wasn't able to save settings so I had to put it back to normal.

If anyone has done this before and had success or just has some good advice I would appreciate any help.

Thanks

That's a good question. My brother and I were wondering the same thing. This is the response he got from the DSMLink forums.

I am interested in getting an AEM IAT sensor to log intake temps. I have read numerous threads on this subject and I am still confused on a few things:

1. Where should I put the sensor at? Would the upper intercooler pipe right before the throttle body be the best spot?

2. Since I have a MAFT, in DSMLink I am ignoring IAT/Baro. Because of this, the intake temp is always at 80. Is there any way I can use the IAT sensor to replace the MAFT's constant temp reading or can I only use the sensor to log my temps?

3. Even if it is possible to replace the MAFT's constant temp reading, should I?

Thanks everybody!

2) Yes, you COULD replace the constant temp reading by turning off the "ignore IAT/Baro" box in dsmlink. You can also only use the sensor to log your temps.

3) Absolutely, positively not. This will totally screw up your airflow readings and make the car incredibly difficult, if not impossible to tune. The MAFT functionality requires the temp be at 80 to deliver an accurate reading.

Thanks for the information.

Thats to bad, I was kind of figuring that after I tried it but was hoping someone had found a way around it. But after reading that it seems like all the MAF Translator calculations take into account that the intake temp is set to 80 degrees. I just wonder why they didn't set it up so that a person could choose to run an IAT if they chose to since it isn't always sunny here in Washington.

Does anyone know if the Gen II Translator has this same problem?
