So I now have an engine wire harness lined up that I'm gonna buy. Do I need to remove the engine in order to swap the harnesses? I imagine I do, but I've never done it and therfore I'm not too sure. Thanks
:hmm:

No. All you really need to remove is the battery and the battery tray under the hood because thats where the wiring harness feeds through the fire wall. On the inside of the car removing the center console, stereo, and both driver/passenger side kick panels is necessary. After that its just a bunch of un-plugging connectors and un-bolting grounds...

:dsm:

Yea, it is very easy. I just swapped mine out last week. Then took a crap ton of connectors and extra wire out.

Just be sure to label everything so you know where it goes.

Actually... after you run the plugs in through the massive hole under the battery tray into the interior of the car.. you could pretty much toss the harness up and over the top of the engine and 8 times out of 10 the plugs will fall in place. Lol.

It's pretty hard to get plugs mixed up on the harness if the harness is unhacked.

The only issue is it's a harness from a GSX. I know it'll match up, but are there any plugs I won't be using on my GS-T?

The differences in the wiring harness don't change between GS-T and GSX but they do change. There are (4) different 2g wiring harnesses...
  1. '95-'96 A/T harness
  2. '95-'96 M/T harness
  3. '97-'99 A/T harness
  4. '97-'99 M/T harness
Depending on which year and transmission type the harness came out of will require you change a few things on your car if it isn't the EXACT same as your model 2g. For example, if you got a '95-'96 wiring harness you'd have to re-wire your CAS.

^ Completely true!

I used a turbo 95 auto harness in my 97 manual.

The cas is different, I think that's about it.
