Saskatoon,
I have a GSX I have decided to use through the winter now after parking it last winter. I am wondering if there is anyone from Saskatchewan here that would recommend some really appropriate winter tires for our climate. If one was from Saskatchewan you would know that our roads turn to pure ice in winter, and a foot of snow on top. If someone knows of some winter tires that fit 17`` rims and will combat this very well I would really appreciate the help....
(I did reasearch this but I need help specifically for my type of winter because winter is different to different places and people)

When it comes to snow tires I have always liked Blizzak tires.

Winter is a little different from place to place but I think Wisconsin has varied enough conditions that I think I can speak pretty universally. I drove my car on everything from bare frozen asphalt to two foot parking lot drifts to slushy lake ice and it did great which is especially surprising for a rwd car (volvo 760turbo station wagon).

I have since switched to Sport Kings on the truck and Destination A/Ts on my Jeep but that probably wont help you with your search for car tires. If you are wondering the Sport Kings are the hands down winner.

Try going to tirerack.com and looking at the tires there, they have a lot of reviews and information on different tires. Is it legal to use studded tires there? If so that is the way that I would go.

Hey friend! You and I are probably the closest neighbours as far as anyone else here. I am running all seasons right now, they re not good on ice but even on a huge pile of snow or slush they work good. I have went through a few sets of winter tires on previous cars and any actual winter tire is better than none! I used Cooper winter tires on my V6 accord and I was getting off the line just as well as my brother with his Quattro. It all depends what you wanna do with the vehicle and how much your willing to spend. If it is just normal everday driving then entry level tire will do the job even those ones at Wal-Mart. If you plan on going all out performance then go with Micheliin's Alpine pilot sports that will not only give you traction going forward but as well sideways. Blizzaks are also a good choice or the yokohoma line ups.

If you want studded, I'm not much help. Last winter, my search was for a winter tire that could also be good in the slushy roads we often get on this side of Lake Erie. I narrowed my choices down to 2 tires, the Blizzak WS-50 and the Continential ContiExtreme Contact. From what I found, the Blizzaks are better on snow and ice, but the Continentials are better in the slush and deep, standing puddles of melted snow.

I imagine you deal more with snow and ice than melted snow and slush. You might want to look at studded though. With the GSX, 4 studded tires would probably be near unstoppable.

3rd on the blizzaks, thats what I roll on. Great in the snow, awd is also awesome in the snow.
