IMO I think it looks too tacky. Would definitely put things over the top.

So what happened? Mother's didn't keep it up to snuff for 3+ years? I got some paint for painting the wiper arms, and I thought about painting the cowl, too, but if I can get it new for $30, it's almost not worth the time and paint to futz with the old one.

Your joking right. LOL The Mother's is a great short term solution, and it works unless you are completely OCD. :p

I honestly don't see why krylon plastic won't work well. I used it on my tail lights and they look 100% after a while. Just don't get the glossy black. I'm actually planning on doing this in a day or two, so I'll report back with the results.

I used Krylon Fusion Satin black on some of my interior headliner parts and 3 years later, they still look like the first day I painted them.

I won't be able to get to this until next week, so pics would be great! :thumb:

Anyone try spray painting it with Krylon Fusion?

The only "trouble" with painting trim plastics is that it always comes out looking painted. As molded, colored plastic has a sort of texture/depth/feel that a layer of paint on the surface takes away, or at least changes. Whether you like it or not comes back to personal opinion.

I have had no issues with Krylon Fusion. It is totally different from all the other paint products on the market. Then again, I give it 3 light coats.

Krylon Fusion is nothing like other paint products on the market. I spray painted some parts on my 92 Eclipse (a long long time ago when I had it) and it looked like crap. I tried the Fusion stuff and the plastic parts come out looking like they were black from the factory. Try it, you may end up changing your mind about painting plastics, like me.

I just repainted mine with krylon flat black plastic paint and the wiper arms got a couple layers of regular black paint since they were also faded. I'll have pictures up by tomorrow on how it turned out :thumb:

I'm still iffy about painted plastic. Like on door handles. :D

Yea, I would be wary about using these ghetto plastic rattle cans for paint that comes into contact everyday. i made that mistake a while ago and before long the paint started 'mushing' itself around on the handle. WTF

^^ What did you edit? It's been a while since I got the Defiant moderating treatment :p

As promised, a quick pic I took before I headed out of the house. I also got some nice new weather stripping on the car and everything looks GREAT! :thumb:

How would you go about removing the cover? I see some plastic screws I'm guessing I have to loosen but do I have to remove the windshield arms to remove it?

Not crazy about that shine. My new OEM one is sitting in my garage waiting for my new wiper linkage I ordered to arrive. The OEM has a much more natural shine to it IMO.

There are no screws. They are plugs and clips. I busted all of mine when I pulled my cover, or they shot across the garage somewhere. A new OEM wiper cowl comes with all the clips u need. Then there are 5 plugs on the front that you need to order and 2 larger plugs on each end. Total of 7 plugs. I'll post pics and part numbers when mine come in this week.

I would say go OEM or paint if you're cheap.

Here's all the part numbers for everything:

MB881907 - Wiper cowl - $30.32
MR109909 (2) - Wiper cowl screws - $0.85 each - $1.70 total
MB375995 (5) - Wiper cowl snaps - $0.83 each - $4.15 total
MR109910 (2) - Wiper cowl clips - $0.85 each - $1.70 total

Prices from JNZ Tuning.

You can get all of that for under $40. You're looking at spending over $150 for just the carbon fiber cowl. That decision's up to you, but I don't see the need to spend that money when it won't help save weight or increase performance.

I have all that stuff on my to-buy list once I'm home from school. :thumb:

Spelling correction. If there was a reason to panic, I'd have made it clear. It's part of the "treatment".

It looks good. It also shows how the surface translucence of the plastic has been replaced by the sheen of the paint. It doesn't look bad, it just looks different from the stock plastic. For most things, I prefer stock. If I didn't, I probably wouldn't have bought the car. There is no "better" to it, just personal preference. Although painted does look better than faded-to-shit.
Also, if that part has ever been Armor-All'd, stand by for a nightmare.

i had mine painted on my avenger for a long time. i just picked up a cf one a few months ago and have that on now. heres a couple pics of both
