Will these mods be enough to run 17 lbs?

Will the following 'safely' support 17 lbs using a S16g on a 1g?

550 injectors
fp upgrade (or will a stock fp re-wire be enough?)
unported 2g ex manifold
stock i/c + intake hoses
stock fpr
no porting done anywhere
stock motor
no fuel management system
stock maf
stock bov
no datalogger

Basically, I'd like to know how much boost a mostly stock 'free-modded' 1g will handle before a bigger i/c, hard intake pipes, ported everything,
etc. will be needed or really desired so as not to over-stress the engine/turbo(s16g)/transmission.

By a mostly stock 'free-modded' 1g I mean a 2-1/2" exhaust, K+N, egt + boost gauges, fp + fpr upgrade (if necessary) etc. I'm looking to have a reliable and strong running strictly street DSM without having to go too far with the mods.

Well I've heard with 550, you don't need SAFC, however it depends on how much boost you want to run.

Umm and porting doesn't really determine how much boost you run.

It's how much fuel you have that mostly determines it. And a way to control it.

Well with no datalogger, and no way of controlling fuel, you're tuning in the dark, taking your chances.

We need someone to chime in that "really knows" hehe.

I will take a mad stab at it and say about 15 lbs. I would be afraid of ruining the engine.

Dataloggers are cheap, and that's what you need to give you the answer.

Get a datalogger, hook it up and take it for a run. Up the boost a little each time until you start to see knowck, then back it off a touch.

Every car is a little different, so we can't say for sure.

Datalogger needed! It's manadatory for anyone going any higher then 14 lbs. on a 14B IMHO.

Final answer: NO!

if you're going to put 550's on it i would definitely get a fuel pump and not depend on the rewire free mod, also i would highly recommend some kind of fuel managament like and afc or if you have an eprom, then some kind of keydiver chip. i ran denso 550's without fuel management and my spark plugs were black as night when i changed them. if it helps any, i have desno 550's an afc, a 155lph fuel pump and a 2g maf, and i can run 18psi all day.

Well, your handle is 91bomb, and your profile says a '92 NT, so I'm not sure what car you're talking about. If it's a non-turbo, you have other fish to fry before you drop a turbo in. Assuming that you are talking about upgrading a turbo motor:

with the 550's and no fuel management, at the least you will be running rich at idle and low RPM. If it's a '90, your ECU fuel trims only have a 20% range on either side of 100, as opposed to 40% for later models, so you may be pushing black smoke out your pipe, especially with 190 or re-wire. A '91+ would probably be okay.

Include an AFC and you'll be good to go regardless, and it will come in very handy when you're trying to dial it all in.

Good luck,

M

I am talking about upgrading a turbo motor.
91BOMB is from when I registered here I had a '91 TSI which caught fire back in January. I bought a '92 N/T Eclipse in march or april but have been planning on buying another 1g turbo and I've been thinking about what I can and want to do with it when I get it. Although buying another 1g turbo is on hold right now since the price of gas has gone insane and my N/T is in good shape -- but slow as %hit :D:
