ok so ive got a 95 gsx, and it has a bunch of exterior rust like paint lifting rust on the rear fender and some messed up rust on the door. there is also a bunch of rust on the frame work and stuff. if i were to fix the exterior rust and do whatever i cna for the frame rust would the car last long? something is wrong with the engine (theres a knock) and i was considering buying a new motor and building it up, would it be smart on the body that i have? i dont know if its worth trying to sell it because the car has cost me about 7-8 grand so far and it has a salvage title with 130k miles. im pretty sure i cant get over 3 grand even if i fix it, so i was thinking maybe it would be better to keep it and build it up. opinions?

if you get all of the rust out of the panels, seal them so water cant get inside of them, and paint them with real paint(not primer only) then they will last a long time provided that you take care of the body. on the rear quarter, you are going to have to access the inside and outside of the panel with the paint stripped to actually see how far the rust goes up into the panel. then cut out all of the rust, and weld in a new section from another quarter panel that you are going to have to locate before you even begin this. after you have the new section welded in, do the typical steps of minor body filling, sanding, primer and paint(inside and out). Then that rust should never come back. as for the door, i would just get another door with no rust and have it painted to match your car. hope this helps you out. i just replaced a quarter panel on my hatch, so if you want to do this ill help you through it.

well idk exactly what they are called but theyre like the fraim rail parts u lift your car with on the shop lifts, one part is completely bent and im not sure how bad it is because most of it is covered in undercoating. but i mean near the engine where the engine sits on that frame, allot of that is rusted. theres allot of rust thats why i dont know if its worth even keeping it or selling it with a 6 thousand or so deficit.

if its all of the way through the frame rails the right way would be the same thing as the rear quarter panel process. cut out the damaged material and weld in new and seal with paint and under coating. it just depends on what you want to do. but can you describe the piece by the engine a little better? that piece may be easier than you think to replace. i mean you were sayin you might get a new engine, while its out you could fix that piece.

in my own opinion i would do it all just to get the experience and after its all done with you would know that car like the back of your hand, and you would know that there is not a thing wrong with it. having that piece of mind is amazing. but its up to you.

Why would you even buy a salvage titled car for 7-8 grand when you are fully aware that nobody would buy it back? Also please use proper grammar, spelling, english. If the rust is to the point that it's not even worth it to fix it, junk the car or part it out and get another. This time with a better idea of what to buy.

The thing is its not just a single piece, theres allot of them that are rusted, and you are right about the practice part, but im just not sure it will be worth my while, i would have to do allot of major body and frame work to make everything good, im just afraid that it might be too rusted out and there would be no possible way for me to fix it.

PS: I'm sorry for the grammer and spelling, i was in a hurry. ;)
second, i didnt buy the car for 8 grand. I bought it for 2.5k and when i took it to the mechanics, they changed a whole lot of drive train parts, such as shafts and drive axles. also the turbo set me back almost 900 and all the little fixes have added up, and now the engine is meesed up.
