will fmic = overheating?

never never land, Maryland
well it only happens when i blast the ac on a hot day but my car starts to run hot. im worried that putting a fmic will make me run hot all the time. as long as i keep the ac off or low its fine. is there a good core i can get thats something like 12" wide and 6" tall? any ideas?thanks

You obviously have a problem with your cooling system that needs to be adressed before you add a fmic. If you are going to take the time and spend the money you should get something bigger than 6"tall.

if it is happening now, it will only get worse with a big ass fmic using up all the cool air.

so after fmic install, your radiator won't get ANY cool air at all; regardless of a/c load.

i agree with what has been said. fix the cooing issue, then proceed. Because even with a fmic that is only 6" tall, that is still that much of the radiator that isn't getting any cool air, PLUS however distorted the flow will be to the parts of the radiator that isn't blocked.

I have a big hahn fmic, after chopping off the black part of the front bumper it seemed to help. I sa y f it and get the fmic, well worth it. hahn rocks so far! :thumb:

Maybe right now you have a bad fan or clogged up raditiator or thermostat.

this sounds wierd but, with my car it overheated like crazy, and then i switched out the head on it,put a p&P one on,and it fixed the cooling problem, could just be internally motor related.....rare but happens sometimes

Well correction hot days my car overheated on the highway. Since then chopped that black part on the bumper and helped reduce the temps alot. No no knock and less heat :thumb:

yea my colt kept overheating,so i took out the grill and all of that, then i just realized my 1.6 turbo motor sucked.then it blew up,but i put the 2.0 in it now and it doesnt overheat at all,the radiator still sucks face pretty hard

That was likely due to a blown Headgasket.

I too am having problems overheating on hot days with the AC on. Doesnt happen any other time, and it is preventing me from installing my FMIC. I have pretty much done up the entire cooling system, 180 OE tstat, water wetter, 60/40 coolant mix, fluidyne, dual FAL fans w/shrouds. Compression is strong as I checked it this weekend which makes me wonder if its not my headgasket...will do a radiator cap leak down test to check for bubbles to really see if the HG is leaking, other than that, I am boggled. Car never overheats other than when the AC is on, even on abusive canyon runs. Suggestions?

well i bought a new radiator cap and will try 80% water/20% coolant. if that doesnt work than ill get a new radiator. or maybe i can just never run the ac? i can just remove the whole damn thing. weight reduction right? :D

do both fans turn on when the A/C is on? Also you might want to take a look at your radiator and look for gunk in the radiator. Your radiator might just be all plugged up. If so you can take it to a radiator shop to have cleaned out and the fins fixed. I'm running an OE temp stat. New radiator cap and 50/50 antifreeze mix like you are supposed to run. One 14" pusher fan on the front of the radiator and a hugh FMIC. I used to have overheating problems and it turned out to be my thermostat and cap. Now with the stock radiator running 24 PSI I don't overheat what so ever. Oh I also cut the front bumper cover to the same size as the FMIC which also helped a lot for city stop and go driving.

Another thing to look at if you have changed everything in your cooling system. Is you timing-ignition and cam. If the are off they will cause you to overheat also (ignition not as bad more so on cam but either will cause it)
