Will an SRS unit for 95-98 eclipse work properly in a 99 eclipse?

I recently got into a car accident where my airbags deployed, 95-98 eclipse have crash sensors in their fenders. For some reason I could not locate theses, and so I went to a dealership and spoke with both a mechanic and the parts manager. They informed me that the 99 eclipse doesn't have crash sensors in the fenders- but instead I would simply have to replace the SRS unit. Apparently there is in their words "A G sensor located under the armrest near the ecu". They then informed me that a new ecu would run me $530.00, and once the airbags deploy the SRS unit must be replaced.


Its raining today so I can't go out and check my car for the part #, so I figured I would ask - Do you think and SRS unit from a another 2g eclipse would work properly for my 1999 eclipse? Im sure I could find a used one for alot less than $530

I'm not sure about the sensors in the bumper, I did have to totally disassembled mine to custom install my FMIC and I did not see them infront or behind the safety bumper.

When I replaced my ECU (voltage controller for alternator was shot and is located in the ECU for N/T's) I did find a place that made it totally easy and gave me an updated and rebuilt ECU w/ a lifetime warrenty and free shipping for $199: LINK

ECU = Engine Control Unit
You should say Air Bag Computer or you may confuse people.

From what I've seen at the junkyards all the 2G airbag systems look the same, but I haven't compared part numbers.

Make sure your battery is disconnected when replacing the computer, or working on any part of the airbag system.

I have changed your title to reflect the SRS unit and not an ECU. Any 2g SRS unit should work, as long as it's not from a very early 2g - they have a different part number.

The SRS unit will work even though the 99 eclipse has a different airbag system from early 2g eclipses?

According to CAPS it doesn't. The two year ranges are:

9401.1 to 9506.3
9507.1 to 9904.3

ok so basically any srs ecu from a 96+ 2g should work- thanks alot man

I found a 99 srs ecu on ebay undeployed for $160 (w/s) so thats already a lot cheaper than $530.00...im going to go looking tomorrow tho- thanks again for the help

Yep, I'd say you should be good with any 96+ SRS unit.

Do you need the bags as well? I have them and the SRS unit freshly pulled from my '97.

i got a driver airbag already and i should be getting the passenger by the end of the week...its been a major pain trying to get the min black i keep finding grey .... thanks tho
