I am currently selling a 3" SR.S catback exhaust off of my '97 AWD. I was thinking about it a couple of nights ago and realized that, if I remember correctly, a 2G AWD catback exhaust will fit on a 2G FWD vehicle fairly easily, but a 2G FWD catback exhaust will not fit on a 2G AWD vehicle, due to the driveshaft, rear diff, and rear axles, ect. Am I remembering this correctly?? I can't think of any reason why an AWD catback wouldn't fit on a FWD vehicle.....besides maybe having to change or make a couple of new exhaust hangers towards the rear of the vehicle. Is there anything that I am forgetting about? Can anybody give me any reason(s) why a 2G AWD catback would not fit on a 2G FWD vehicle, besides maybe some minor hanger fabrication or rigging??

from my knowledge the 2g fwd rear subframe hangs down lower than the 2g awd cars. the awd exhaust usually tucks under the subframe because there is more room under the awd rear suspension.

the 2g FWD exhaust goes over the rear fwd subframe because the rear subframe hangs a lot lower

anything will fit, but you will have to bang and bend the shit out of the awd catback to make it bend upwards to come back up to the rear bumper. not just a little bit, like that pipe will need to be damn near flat to get to the angle it needs to point up towards the bumper

Even if the subframe wasn't a concern, there's still the issue with the fuel tank. AWD tank has a hump in the middle to accommodate the exhaust and driveshaft.

I wasn't aware of a difference in the rear subframe. But it would make sense. The gas tank shouldn't be an issue because the driveshaft goes right through the middle of the tank on the AWD, and the tank is molded for that to happen. So unless you're running the exhaust straight down the middle where the driveshaft would be, that won't make a difference.

I’ll try it tonight I currently have my awd exhaust laying on the floor. I’ll slap it on my fwd and see how and if it even fits.
If you could do that, I can't even tell you how much I would appreciate it!!

Actually, I appreciate you offering to check it out, but Chrysler Kid was right! The rear subframe hangs down much lower on the FWD, and the gas tank must hang down lower as well, because the AWD catback runs right along side of the driveshaft and goes underneath the gas tank, but the FWD is routed around the gas tank. So I guess IHeartMyHonda was also correct! Well crap.....I guess I'll keep waiting for an AWD owner to be interested in buying my old exhaust......damnit! Thanks for your help guys, much appreciated!

if youre looking at buying a fwd exhaust I reccomend something like a 2.5 exhaust. the 3 inch exhausts (no name or ebay DNA) are typically poor fitment and will rattle against the rear subframe. I had to use hose clamps around my exhaust bushings to lift the piping higher so it didnt rattle
