420A Will a 1996 eclipse ecu work on a 1995 eclipse?

Hi I'm new DSMs. I recently bought a 1995 eclipse gs. It won't start and I found out that it needs an ecu. It turns out that finding one around here in central PA is very difficult:ohdamn:. I found 2 95s but one was automatic and the other already had the ecu removed. I did however find multiple 96s with manual transmissions like mine. So the question is can I use the ecu from a 96? If not is there any way to make it work? Any help would be much appreciated!

Millers didn't have one either. I really shouldn't have bought this car..I've gone through more than its worth and parts are harder to find than I expected. I should've saved a little more and bought a gsx or at least a gst. Parts are so much more common. Found plenty of automatic ECUs..I would've expected manuals to be more common. Wrong LOL. :ohdamn:

There is a company on eBay that sells them for about 120. Idk how you feel about eBay. Bought that's were I bought mine. Call them and give them your VIN and they will make sure to send you the right one. The company is in Michigan I believe.

Ive ownd 2 420a cars 95&97, only noticable diff ive seen in them is 95 has the fpr on the fuel rail an 96up is at the tank(why?,who knows) and i switchd my 97 420-t to a 95 rail for the reason of it was at the time fmu tuned.
But anyway 420a cars are no ways as bastard as 4g63 cars when it pertains to ecus, my 96 tsi could only run a 96 tsi ecu correctly. 98 gst i own shows only 98s will work for it also.
Anyway i dont recall a difference other than obd2 but the ecus plugs i think were the same.
Not to name another forum but 2gnt.com can prob be of greater use to you on this.

Well according to [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_Neon]Chrysler Neon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame] It wasnt a 420a at all.

Soo now I'm compelled to know.

Avenger/Sebring still stand. They also use same interior + a few varations.

What i have so far on the neon, dsm 420a ecu situation

It looks like the first one (365) is from an A/T 420A DSM, whereas the second one (646) is from a Dodge Neon. It makes sense that the A/T ECU would run an M/T car rather poorly as it's missing several crucial inputs from the TCU.

I'm not sure how similar the Dodge Neon and 420A DSM ECU's are for the 1995 model year, but for later years the only differences are the pin assignments for the cooling fan and IAC. The 420A DSM lacks a few things the Neons had, too, like the battery temperature sensor (possibly why your battery light is on). Finally, the maps inside the Neon and 420A DSM ECU's are different... different enough where you should really find the correct ECU for your car.

95 and 96 are the same ecu. I did it and it worked for me. You can find them on ebay for sale if your looking. or the marketplace on here. Make sure you research before you buy. maybe something was up with mine but it did work. if they are different then I don't know how. ill do some research also.

My friend told me about a junkyard that I didnt know existed and told me there were a bunch of eclipses. I went there and went to where the guy told me the eclipses and talons were I couldn't find one. One 95 but it was a gst. The yard wasnt really organized so I decided to walk around more and try my luck. I was lucky enough to find a 95 talon esi (also manual like my eclipse) so I got the needed part. But on top of that I found a place to get other needed parts in the future! :D

The '95 ECU is unique for the 420a. It changed in '96. Different connector, different everything, really. '95 car can only use a '95 ECU.

A '95 Neon ECU is basically the same if it's for a 5-speed. At least, it's interchangeable. The auto's are different since the 420a used the 4-speed electronically controlled trans and the neons only used the 3-speed hydraulic trans.

A 420a and a Neon 2.0L are essentially the same engine with mirror-image cylinder heads. The 420 is back-to-front and the Neon is front-to-back (intake-to-exhaust).
