Will a 1990 oil filter housing and oil cooler work w/6 bolt ofh with internal cooler?

Okay so I have done some searching and so far I could only find threads on already installed external oil coolers and etc. But what I want to figure out is if a 1990 oil filter housing with a external oil cooler will bolt up and work with my engine which has the internal cooler in the oil filter housing? Has anyone ever done this? Main reason why I'm thinking about it is because mine is leaking and figures a external oil cooler would work better. If anyone has done this how exactly did you hook up oil lines for the turbo and etc. If possible post pic. Any input would be greatly appreciative.
 
there is a good chance that you will take to make heat out of the oil, which isnt good either.
 
As long as your engine is for sure a 6 bolt you can bolt up a '90 OFH. Easiest way would be to just get a whole setup with lines and cooler used and bolt it in. Or you can always go with braided lines and just put the oil cooler wherever you want it such as in behind the driver's side foglight.

True, it is good for warming up the oil, but neither is coolant leaking into the oil or vice versa, that and for a high output engine, I believe air-oil is better otherwise the Evo VIII/IX wouldn't have had one.
 
You said 6 bolt in your post but your profile says 93 car. I'll assume your car has had a swap and now has a six bolt motor? If so it's a remove and replace affair. You will need to block off the coolant hoses that are no longer needed or get a different water pipe if you want to go that far.

Your post makes it seem to me like you wanted to run both the original water cooled (what you've called the "internal) unit and the original air cooled ("external) unit together which is not going to happen. You use one or the other, not both.

Another part of your post mentions changing the oil lines to the turbo, which is absolutely unnecessary assuming you aren't changing turbos as well or fixing a leak within those lines.

Sorry for the confusion. So right now I have what I would call the internal cooler because the cooler is sandwiched between the oil filter and the oil filter housing, and I believe that there must be a o-ring type gasket in there that may be the cause of my leak. My question is will a 1990 oil filter housing that has the external oil cooler bolt up to my block? That way I will be getting rid of the sandwiched type cooler and housing, and putting the external type in its place. hopefully I cleared my self up a little bit.

Yes it will bolt right on in place if you do in fact have a 6 bolt. It would be easier to just buy a new o ring for the existing cooler on the car. They are like 4 bucks from the dealership.
 
You can also just remove the sandwich cooler but you need an adapter tube which is shorter to delete the cooler and cap off the thermostat housing and water pipe with bypass caps (not vacuum caps). The best is to change the housing and water pipe though. I have had a cap split on me when my car sat for a year and a half. I swapped to the 90 filter housing and ran my lines to the passenger side fender where the side mount would go.
