For those of you wondering how important a wideband O2 sensor is (and before today I was one of them), I have news - it is very important!

I'll save some time and not repeat all of my mods (you can check out my vehicle profile if you like), but I just kept putting the Wideband off because of the price. I have an SAFC-2 and got pretty proficient at tuning it and what-not, and I thought that was about as good as it was going to get.

Today I got lucky and the great folks at SpeedFetish.com installed a Wideband on my car and we tuned it properly. It runs better, idles better, runs smoother, faster, and it was WAY too lean before (over 20:1 at idle!!)

I just have to say now from personal experience, we'll all spend $300 on this, $500 on that, and it may not be as cool as buying, say, a turbo or full exhaust, but I now realize how important it really is. (BTW, I'm not a Wideband salesman either) ;)

Since SpeedFetish was so helpful, I decided to take the rest of the day off from my work and help them out in the shop. And in that shop is an original Nissan Skyline GT-R, which I am now one of the few people in America who has had the priveledge of working on! :thumb:

just to clarify.. i'm interested in a W02 did u put it in ur Manifold? or Downpipe?

I heard the get damaged easily if kept in the manifold but more accurate then in the DP cuz it's before the the turbo..

did u replace one of your original o2s? and the sensor sends a narrow band signal to the ECU and a wideband signal to your output? or do u have to have 3 o2 sensors now?

a O2 is going to be one of my first mods so I'm really interested in what input u have..

thanks

and P.S. I have a Purple R33 GTR Vspec sitting in my drive way... i work on it all the time ;)

I have full 3" exhaust from the turbo back, and no cat. I originally only have 1 O2 sensor, the one in the downpipe. I removed the one after the cat and built an O2 Sensor-delete.

We put the wideband in the exhaust, after the downpipe. We drilled a hole in the pipe and installed a bung. We only put the Wideband in there to tune, then removed it and plugged the bung.

We weren't going to drill the manifold and risk burning the Wideband up, and we wanted to keep the one in the downpipe there so the car will run right, so that is why we chose to put it where we did.

I would say that if you still have a cat and 2 O2 sensors, leave them alone and just add a third, the Wideband, and use that one only for tuning purposes.

and P.S. I don't have a Lamborghini Diablo VTTT, but even though some people do, if I had one I'd be one of the few lucky people that do! :p Post a pic of your Skyline, I'm in love with those now.

thanks for the help Catbox... i've heard rumours that if u put the Wo2 far back in the exhaust.. it causes innacuracies at low rpm, because there's not enough gas flow reaching the Sensor that far back... any comment on that?

well

here's the pics of the car:

the thread is really old.. and i've since moved on..

The 200SX I sold to my friend, and the Del Sol (trans top btw) I sold as well..

and then bought the eclipse and joined this forum...

Yeah, I think you're right about that. I don't think it poses a problem at WFO though, which is where the tuning is important anyway. At idle and low RPM, I like to stay a bit on the lean side anyway.

newb question, be prepared.

What did you use to tune with the wideband? AFC.

I understand that the wideband gives you an accurate account of your AFR.

What I am failing to understand is what you tune with once you have one.

Let me assume and make an ass out of myself if I am wrong.

I would still use an AFC or equivilant, and a logger, as the wideband just makes tuning more accurate.

Speedfetish is a pretty cool shop... they helped weld my fmic piping up.. That skyline they have is pretty cool... needs a lot of cosmetic work(it looked beat to shit) but i wouldnt mind having one.

Yes, all a wideband does is give a very accurate reading of your A/F ratio. Then you would use something like an SAFC or DSMLink to tune your A/F ratio to get a good reading thru all rpm levels. I use an SAFC-2. I went with 11.5:1 - 12.0:1, which I think may be just slightly rich, but it's safe.

Yeah, that Skyline got all beat up during shipping to Guam. Someone stole the rear spoiler before they even got it! They're still trying to get a title for it. It's been a real nightmare for them.
