(Sorry if this has already been asked...) Why do people say to tune for 0 counts of knock in 1st gen's when you can allow some in 2g's?
all i can think of is maybe the ecu retarding timing, but doesnt it pull timing after 4 counts?
aside from that, i have this problem with thuning: no knock at full throttle in any gear but up to 13 counts after a shift-is that phantom knock or what?
thanks guys/girls,
jerome

its best to tune for 0 knock because the weather, air temp/barometric pressure, engine condition, gass octane, so many variables etc... wont be the same tomrrow, so this way you have a bit of leway incase its warmer tomorrow,

sure you can have 1-3 counts of knock, but what if tomrrow is warmer and htat 1-3 knock counts turns into 9-10 counts... there goes your timing...

yeah, but why is it so important for a 1g and not a 2g?

after talkin to a few local guys, they are saying tune for 1-10 counts of knock on a 1g, other wise your running too rich.. LOL

I think I'll stick with 1-5 counts of knock ;) just to be safe

Tune for 0 knock any either of the cars. @g's are only different because of a different sensor and the way the ecu see's it.

You can log knock on a 2g, with dsmlink

I don't know where you heard that on a 2g you tune for more knock than you do on a 1g; they both can be tuned about the same way.

I have heard that people like Shepard tune for 5 counts of knock, but that is just heresay and I wouldn't claim that I know that is true.

It's really difficult to tune for exactly 5 counts.

I would be more inclined to guess that he tunes for the knock threshhold, which could put him around 5 counts sometimes.

Of course, he is on a standalone now, so it doesn't apply.

there's a tuning guide that really stressed that 1g's should be tuned for 0 knock-no question about it. it seems that 2g's had some flexibility.
it was on one of those tuning articles.

That was probably my guide that stressed 0 knock for 1g's. However, I don't think I even claimed 2g's were and different.

I was able to tune my car for about 4 counts w/ an SAFC and racefuel. If I knew how to upload the logs I would show you. I think I am going to try and figure this stuff out tonight or tomorrow.

"On a 1g, you want to tune for no knock, end of story. "
thats hella funny, huh? anyway, i understand why youre saying that, it just really sounded like it was more flexible on a 2g.
but i did hear that a few other times, so i was curious.

i have the same problem when i shift also. knock goes nuts. why is that?
