Does anyone know why you can't run a 1pc driveshaft in 1g's? Does it have to do with the pinion angle or anything that has to do with rear end geometry? I'm going to be swapping in a solid rear axle and I'm trying to find out why everyone runs a 2 piece DS?

As I suspected, it's the pinion angle. So as long as I have a straight line between the tcase and rear, I should be fine

Unless DSS makes one for a 1g that has a Ford rear end in it, I'll be having a custom one made locally. I'll probably just copy what they do and keep the oem from part and have one made from there to the rear

They could make a custom one for you. It's really just the rear section that you would need, after taking it all apart at the lobro joint. I really like the DSS driveshaft, it's quite a bit lighter than the stock driveshaft, and it eliminates a carrier bearing.

I'll stop by my local shop and see how much they will charge for a 4" aluminum one. I have plenty of room since I'm not running an exhaust

The DSS website explained exactly why it can't be done. The angle of the Tcase is 2* and the rear is 7*. Didn't expect them to list that on their site

I've been doing a lot of digging the past couple of days on solid rear ends. I already have one but I just have to actually get under the car and figure out the best way to setup the 4 link. I haven't seen one of these cars with a 4link yet

I really feel like your making a mountain out of a molehill here. There are a few guys going 8's on stock 4bolt axles with an auto.

Have you considered giving the 3 bolt a chance? I suspect peepers on here might still be on a 3 bolt and has gone 10.02, I know he did 1.5 60's on a 3 bolt with hoosiers and a man trans.

I think if your launching hard enough to break a 3 bolt, your probably going to be hurting transfer cases and transfer gears as well.

Well a 4 bolt swap is only going to save me maybe $200 so as soon as I break 1 axle, it will offset the cost savings. What are the downsides to going with a live rear axle? Setting it up? That's the only one I can think of

Once I go through all of the transfer cases I have, I'll turn the engine 90* and make it rwd

There's a nice Colt on here that has a 4 link in it and I PMed the owner but he hasn't been active in a year so I doubt I'll hear back from him

I havent done it and wouldnt myself. I like my cars to handle well. but there are people actually making the swap quoting the weight difference on 4g61 forums.

guy just drove his AWD turbo 1980 mirage to the scales. 2024lbs.
