i have a apexi n1 downpipe and exhaust and its like silent i have the silencer out and everything but its still silent i don't get i figured with no cat i would be ear shatteringly loud but its not any ideas why its so quiet.

Your engine mods have alot to do with how your car sounds. I noticed a HUGE increase in exhaust tone when I put a new turbo on, when I put a higher compression 6-bolt with a ported head on, and even just porting out the exhaust manifold/exhaust housing.

Be thankful your car isn't really loud, I kinda like the way how stock DSMs sound with just an exhaust. Its smooth and quiet.

i have heard that the exhaust packing in the muffler has to stiffen and get packed down and once that starts to happen the exhaust starts to get louder. is there any truth to this?

is this 2.5" diameter echaust piping from turbo and back...? 3.0"?
You say Cat is out right? so how many resonators are there in the exhaust system? 2 maybe?

3.0" exhaust is louder then 2.5" exhaust, also the resonators help quiet the system down a bit, and I bet you have at least one in there.

If so, go to a muffler shop and have them remove it (or 'them') for straight piping, that'll give you that louder tone you're looking for.

keep it quite. You dont want it loud. People complain about me all the time, and it kinda sux when youre driving and trying to chat on your cell phone at the same time.
