Ok, so I may have been living under a rock but whatever, I know something like this exist already, but now I'm wondering if anyone has done this yet? The picture is pretty much self explainatory.

The idea is to insert a electronic cutoff inside the Stock Muffler cylinder, the straighter way (closed) is for the stock exhaust flow, meaning quiet and stock noise, but when switched to OPEN, its a free flow of 3" all the way. Of course, there is at least 1 resonator before the muffler.

:D lmk if this is non sense or it does spark some ideas :sneaky:
I might plan to do this.:hmm:

Critics and comments are welcomed, reason why its inside the cylinder is because a CUT OFF stands out too much, especially if the POPO decides to look under your car. :tease: Trying to remain sleeper as much as possible.

Isn't a cutoff there for the point of staying legal, yet having the quick option to unleash all hell at a track? I'd see no reason to hide one outside of California.

I don't really think a cut off is legal, even though its after the cat. We still get state referal due to an exhaust (cat-back) too loud. And I've read that thread ^^ already, chimed this idea to me, but paying 500 bucks or more for a exhausted shipped here from outside the states, just isn't for me. :aha:

Buddy of mine has it on his 69 Fast Back it's actually pretty cool! he can run full exhaust or open it and it will run right off the headers!:hellyeah: - Ryann :talon:

im in cali :toobad:

i would love that muffler that Ram linked to but its pretty pricy, im running a 3" cutout right now with a 3" caty back, but im planning to trade my 3" cat back to someone with a stock exhaust so i can maintain the stealthy apperance

I'm still running stock exhaust but plan on running the 3" Apexi N1 Cat back with DP! anyways I'm in cali too :toobad: have you had any problems with smog each year? Thanks - Ryann :talon:

i dont have problems with smog,:D but i havent been reffed yet and i hope i never do, one reason why im going to a stock exhaust, and try to keep the outward apperance of the car stock looking
are you the Rayn that bought the stock Cat off me?

Yes there is a company that produces a muffler that uses that concept. Idk if you are familiar with the company Warlock but they produce a Restriction type muffler with one outlet that can be opened up for a straight through muffler for the weekend warrior.

This is a link to how it works and what it looks like.

It's pretty hard for me to grasp their concept. So basically, it's a cut off in a can too right?? :hmm:

ohhhhhhhhhhhh now i get it, but that's pretty lame, you HAVE to get out and bend over to manually take off the block off plate for free flow. I want a switch to open and close valve without getting out of the car.

you could buy an electric cutout and bolt it to that muffler buy that one is a bit too big for our cars

Are you looking for 'Not Lame' or 'Effective'? Not everything that's 'Cool' is 'Effective'. I suppose that Resircing your BOV is lame because you can't hear the BOV as well?

That alternative posted should work pretty well for what you're looking for, but at the same time you could always fab up your own custom mechanism to do this. There are a few people, locally, who have this done on smaller vehicles than ours. Just do a quick google search.

ROFL Me either i hope i don't to! Nope i didn't buy the cat from you! - Ryan :talon:

If I am not mistaken, SRT4s dont have mufflers and are legal. The turbo usually quiets the exhaust enough to not be that loud so you can have a straight thru exhaust with or without mufflers.

For all those that dont have turbos, mufflers are required but, they have nothing to do with emissions other than noise on nonturbos as they can be quite loud. California is another country. ;)

Cutouts are illegal in NY too. I made tailpipe inserts for mine that restrict my tailpipes to 1.5" each. It cuts the bass tone down considerably, and I can take out two allen screws and pop them out for track use in seconds.

theres an exhaust company out of austrila that has a concept like that, i dont remember the company but check them out on youtube man

That's helpful that SOMEONE out of AUSTRALIA has a video on YOUTUBE.

Hmm that's a wonderful idea, but still requires getting out of the car. I want something you can open and close WHILE inside your car, WHILE driving. :hmm: Maybe, I could use a cutoff with a 1.5" piping for stock flow and cover that with an exhaust tip and the OPEN side with a 3" for free flow. And hide all of that inside a stock muffler cylinder :ohdamn: Genius COLT4g63!!! :hellyeah:
