Why does it smoke in the morning?

I just bought a 1990 eagle talon tsi awd, I noticed that in the morning it smoke for 10-15 seconds, is this normal? Also randomly about 2 days ago at night it started smoking a lot after sitting for about 2 1/2 hours, it only did it for 10 seconds, It was embarrasing, the smoke was blue but when it smokes in the morning its white, after it smoked blue 2 days ago it hasn't done it since. Any thoughts?

Well in the morning it could just be the condensation burning off...most if not all cars do that.

Mabye a slow leak of oil somewhere that's burning off when you run it?

The white smoke you see in the morning on a cold start is oil burning. A bit of oil usually leaks past the valve guides, and collects around the valves and cylinder walls. Once you start the car, it is burning that off quickly with the heat in the combustion chamber.
Also, that is why you might see some smoke if you have been idling in traffic, and suddenly you accelerate.
Constant white smoke is usually sweet smelling, signs of burning coolant.
The bit of blue smoke is oil burning. It sounds like your valve stem seals are going out, and you should do new valve guides while your at it. Do a compression test too, to eliminate the possibility of a leaking head gasket.

Wow, any good guides on how to replace valve stems? Is it a hard job? I have lots of experience on working on my 400rwhp trans am but I haven't ventured into my dsm yet.
