Ok. My parents have finally agreed to do my T-belt, soon.(Which means 2-4 weeks) What I need help with is where to get it done? I want to get it done at a Mitsubishi dealer. But my parents want a private shop to do it to save money. I keep trying to tell them that I don't trust a regular mechanic to do the job. I'd reather have someone with some kind of training in this field. Would a dodge/chrysler dealer know how to do it? I'm just trying to find a place to get it done right.

I wouldn't trust a dodge dealer and they will prbably charge more than a mitsudealer. A timing belt is not that big of a deal, Plus if any shop screws is up they will have to pay for that mistake anyway.

I didn't trust anyone in my area other than my mitsu dealer. But yea whoever does that job if they mess it up then their ass in in the water not yours. But personally if your going to get another shop to do it go buy a mitsu timing belt install kit with all the stuff you need from CONCELLI MITSUBISHI and bring it with you when you drop your car off at the shop.

Goodluck.

I found a t-belt kit that have tensioner, t-belt, and everything else and it was like $120 and it was by Concelli. It seems too cheap for a t-belt kit to me, would the quality be good?
BTW, the place I found it at was posated on the forum, partznet.com . Is that a good place to buy from?

Agreed... I don't know what kind of experience you have, or tools (a lift would be really nice on this) but I love doing it myself...

You may also want to check around with some local DSM'rs that have recomendations...

Im iffy al ot of time with my cars so usually i buy a chilton's manual or haynes and do it myself

I agree they are not that hard to do and if you are into dsms you should get used to it:thumb:

:talon: Ok, you obviously live with your parents right? so here are considerations. you can have your local chrysler, mitsu-dealer do it with all of the experience but most important, WARRENTY. My dealer blew my engine with the job he did, so you know what happend? I took my happy butt back and they fixed it for free, the car has never run better... another option, have your local garage do It, you know, the one with that smelly old guy with a sign outside saying "F*** those Japanese Imports", or your Father along with yourself could very well go get a Haynes (my personal favorite for this car) and a Kevlar timing belt and have some real father-son time (unless mom wants to join). that's the way I see it. :thumb:

I would do it myself, but I don't trust myslef to do it right. I am only 15 and our garage is small, and is currently taken up by our Mustang. My dad works to much and we don't have the right tools to do it anyway. I'm going to call our local Mitsu dealer today to find out how much they would charge.

Daaamn...Flash, where u find that kit for $120 man? Best deal i could find was from prostreetonline for $198.

I found it at www.partznet.com . I can get to the homepage, but once I click the Mitsubishi logo, the page won't load for me. :( Will it work for anyone else?
*EDIT* I just checked Prostreetonline.com and their kits come with a water pump, Partznet.com's kit's don't come with a water pump.

it did't work for me, so i clicked on the honda one and then clicked the tab that says mitsubishi, and went right in!:thumb:

nope they say they are but there not, i just sold my tbelt kit to a local buy, the only thing that i think was oem was the tbelt tensonor.. the belts where i think Contitech of some sorts, not sure. the waterpump was from Nissan.

Ok I have personal experience with the Dodge dealership. It cost me around $300 for parts and labor to have my timing belt and balance shafts belts replaced. They are certified to work on DSM's just like a mitsubishi shop, although they don't see as many as the mitsu shops do. I also had them replace my smashed valves and outsource my head for machining which cost me another grand but that is another story. This was right after I got the lemon... I mean DSM so I didn't know jack about the car and didn't want to do it myself. All of my local mechanics throw up their hands when they look under my hood. That is why DSM has been turning ordinary people into mechanics since 1989! By the way where in Iowa do you live?
