so i was driving my car today going to school. got on the expressway for about 2-3 miles and then i lost power and the engine turned off. i pulled over to the side and tried to start and nothing. i saw white smoke coming out of the middle air vents and from the center console near the shifter. smelled like something burned bad. got off to scheck everything seemed fine. . it cranks and cranks but no go. :cry:i really dont know what it is.. i think i fried the ecu but i dont know how.. maybe a short. right now i have it at a mechanics shop since i didnt have anytime to look at it./ what could it be. i had a cel of p1400 generator . but i havent pulled any codes from it after the incident. i just want to rebuild the whole thing and waste a crap load of money but im not sure yet. maybe i am making a big deal from nothing. hope you can help have to study for a test tomorrow. thanks in advance :(

Pull the side panels, check your relays, pull the ECU and check for burns/popped traces/bulging-leaking caps.

This is about the best way you can diagnose your issue.

what are you worried about, its your built in fog dispenser!!! ROFL

like the others have said, it is either the ecu or you may have some bad/exposed wiring that caused a short and some smoke.

I didn't think that the caps would cause a smoke issue but maybe a small pop noise.

:hmm: Somehow that seems odd. Sure, if the pump is not coming on due to it being electrically/mechanically damaged/wore out sure. But I feel like the smoke coming from the dash is telling a different story. If someone was able explain to me how a fuel pump would cause smoke from the dash, I would be greatly interested :D

They said it was the fuel pump

Uhm...you do realize that the fuel pump is at the rear of your car? In fact.. if it was smoking...you'd likely be a charred corpse right now.

It could be a relay, which it likely is. Like we said, pull the console and check everything there.

yeah turned out to be the fuel pump!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!and apparently at the same time a wire from the alarm got burned up in the middle because they didnt connect it right at the audio place, they re wired it and put a new fuel pump and it works.. guess it wasnt a ecu.. at least for now im good hopefully. . .

Well glad you got it figured out... but what a chance of the fuel pump dying and the alarm wire smoking at the same time....

yeah man thats the only reason i took it to a mechanic because i needed my car back and thought the smoke was more than it was, and i didnt have time to look since i had school and had lots of work to do. if i hadnt seen that smoke or smelled it i would have waiting for this thanksgiving break to check stuff out . would have saved some money and could have gone shopping this black friday for a new tv!! dam it!!!
