Bear with me, as I am describing the problem as told to me by someone an ocean away. My car is in Illinois, and I am here in Germany (for a little while longer). Anyways.
This problem started a few weeks ago. My car makes a whining/humming noise under throttle. If you let off the gas the noise stops, but the noise is intrusive enough to override radio etc. So Im guessing it must be decently loud. The noise also only happens when the car is rolling. Revving the engine in neutral doesn't cause the noise. The best guess is it is coming from the passenger side. The car still drives normally and doesnt appear to be losing boost. My brother and his fellow mechanics at the dealership he works at are having a heck of a time figuring it out, since they can't reproduce it with the car on a lift. From what I have been reading on here, whining usually indicates a bad turbo, or a boost leak. I am turning to the minds here to help me, before I go and spend money on things that dont need replacing (yet, this is a DSM afterall). Thanks ahead of time.
