I haven't had this car long. Important mods:
10:1 wiseco
Bc rods
China 16g
Kelford 272
Bc springs

So, I haven't driven it yet because I want to replace the clutch master first. Car is still on break in oil and has less than 1000 miles on the motor. There is a whine that seems to be coming from the front case area and I'm worried that it's the oil pump gear. Car seemed to be put together well and idles fine. Any ideas other than the oil pump that I can check?

The timing belt could be too tight. Do you know if the pump has straight or helical cut gears? Straight gears will cause noise.

have you tried just turning the motor over with a wrench on the crank and seeing if you can hear any sign of faint wining? I would check that and take acc. belts off one and maybe check your water pump also.
GL!

I haven't tried anything yet. I just wanted to find out if this is something that is more normal than I thought. I will start with taking the belt off, then I'll turn the crank manually and move to the timing belt. I'll report back my findings.

Sounds exactly like an oil pump whining from excessive timing belt tension or general wear causing the gears to rub the housings. Do you know if an OEM pump / front case was used in the build or an aftermarket?

Still whines with the accessory belt off. When turning it manually, it's very hard! Could this be due to the high compression or should I be worried? I don't hear any whining yet, but I'm going to try again.

That is the water pump you're spinning there, and it is completely toast! Was that a new water pump? If it is you need to figure out why it went so quick.

*When the engine is cold, I would run it without the WP belt for a second just to make sure the whine is gone though. Good to double check :)

I would only hope that all of the parts were new when the previous owner had this built. Either way, I'm glad I found this before it died completely and overheated in traffic. Even if it were new, theres still a chance it was bad from the factory. I'm going to get an oem one.

I did already run it without the belt and it still whined. I have a terrible memory. I'm going to check the timing belt tension next. It does seem to be unreasonably tight right before the exhaust cam gear.

Correct. After this BBQ, I'll probably come back and pull the timing cover and start it again to see if it's more audible. I do not have a stethoscope, but I don't want to drive it until I make sure it's gone or that it's not detrimental. I have only heard one other dsm that whined like this, but no idea what caused it. Don't remember it being an issue either though.
