Which states have the most lenient Smog laws?

Hey all im looking to move out of San Diego and possibly into a surrounding state for many reasons. I was wondering what states have no smog or easy to pass smog laws. Thanks guys.

Florida has no smog tests, but heh, it's not a surrounding state of cali. I'd think oregon would be a good bet though. Geographically, i think the states to the north would be more lenient in smog and the ones to the south would be stricter.... something about how smog sticks in hotter weather and it's all deserts over there.. something to that affect.

We haven't had smog tests in years although I heard they may bring them back (Like Defiant said...it's the $$$$)

They don't do smog testing here in TX. You don't want to live here though. :thumbdown

Smog testing in maine would get rid of 99% of the vehicles in maine. There is always rumors about it comming back, but I severly doubt it will.

I live in Oregon. There are no smog tests here. Oregon is fairly level-headed when it comes to most things--as long as you're not hurting anybody else (although illegal emissions really do, but anyway..), cops aren't really assholes about things, and laws aren't really crazy.

Arizona only has smog test in Maricopa county, so if you move to Phoenix, or the suroundig cities then you will get smogged. If you do what I do and register you car in an ohter county then you wont have to get smogged. Yes you can get a big ticket for that, but I have two cars and they are both that way for the last 8 years with not one problem.

The air is clean but it sucks here.

No Smog laws here....you can run open DP if you don't exceed the decibel limits.

My local shop put in test pipe.....no prob.

I wish our state was like that
but that brings up a question of mine. Does anyone know what the decibel limit is in Ca?

"27150.2. (a) Stations providing referee functions pursuant to Section 44036 of the Health and Safety Code shall provide for the testing of vehicular exhaust systems and the issuance of certificates of compliance only for those vehicles that have received a citation for a violation of Section 27150 or 27151.

(b) A certificate of compliance for a vehicular exhaust system shall be issued pursuant to subdivision (a) if the vehicle complies with Sections 27150 and 27151. Exhaust systems installed on motor vehicles, other than motorcycles, with a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of less than 6,000 pounds comply with Sections 27150 and 27151 if they emit no more than 95 dbA when tested in accordance with Society of Automotive Engineers Standard J1169 May 1998."


Of course, you can't see the SAE standard if you aren't a member.
