Which paint color lasts longest?

So we all know kalapana black paint fades the worst of any of the 2g colors (the clearcoat dissolves quickly). Red is also fairly bad. However, to think more positively, which paint will resist the sun the longest? Which color is still looking great even after all these years? Does white look best? Silver?

Which color 2g has the best paint today?

I would think the lighter colors would survive the longest as they reflect the most light and the UV rays do less damage over time. Silver oxidizes very quickly.

With that said, white would be the longest lasting color.

I have never seen any of the lighter colors with clear coat cancer. The Celtic Blue, White, Silver, or the puke green color.

I've only seen one Durango Orange in person. No clear cancer.

Seems like the lighter red color doesn't get it as often.

Black seems to be the worst followed by Barcelona red (Purple) and the Dark Forrest Green. (Everett Green Metallic?)

The clear coat is in tact on my Talon. Both on the black top and the green body.

It's only failing in the wheel wells from being blasted by road debris for so long.

My '90 eclipse is white and the only fading I have is on my hood. Pretty good for a 21 year old car.

I've never understood why nearly every 1g has absolutely no paint cancer anywhere except for the hood. I guess they used better quality paint on 1st gens?

I mean I know why the hoods are so bad. Usually people ditch that heatshield on the hood, and it sits a good bit closer to the engine. My 1g had the heatshield and its hood was allways a good bit hotter than any of my other 4g63T cars. Though engine temps where usually a bit lower.

Looks like White wins! I have been looking at DSMs for 7 years and I have probably only seen one white 2g with clear coat cancer.

its all about how you take care of your paint. i have a black 2g and wax it every month with no fades or rust what so ever. black is by far the worst i have seen with clear coat fade but around chicago the white dsms seem to get rusty but clear coat wise would win. again no matter what color a car is if you dont maintain the paintwork its going to chip and fade

Yup, but too much waxing and you'll do more damage than good.
My BRP is plain disgusting from the roof and the hood has seen better days.

even when white fades it is still the easiest to hide.

Get a car cover, or just a tarp to cover the unit from the UV rays .. if your vehicle isn't in a garage.

Go white and add a touch of yellow and purple in the mix ... gives the paint job a pearl look when the sun hits it right.

White because it will reflect uv rays. But attracts hella flys. Ever notice that!
Also you will see the red, black and silver dsm's fade by the spoiler, lower body side skirts, maybe the bumpers.

Ours is silver... It took 15 years to fade and eventually changed it into pearly white... The lighter colors really fades the slowest.. So I always prefer to paint our car with lighter ones...

Yeah whites obviously going to last longest. My magenta gray pearl gst is peeling all over the place, but my buddy's white gst with equal mileage is superb paint. He waxes his car a lot as well. I bought the car peeling already so couldn't really save it.

My 97 Talon clear coat was already starting to look like aligator skin back in 2000. It is totally messed up now.

Any color you like as long as you use good paint and clear, don't mix match base coat and clear coat always use the same brand, DuPont is amazing with 2 good coats of clear, I've had some good luck with Standox too, and if that's too expensive go with some Nason base and clear.
