Which is better with stock springs? AGX or Koni?

Hey Guys,

My question is obviously clear, which shock do you guys prefer with stock springs? I've seen post about one or the other but not compared to each other. Not sure if there is anything you guys need to know about my setup but if there is feel free to ask. Thanks.

The Konis by a mile, but you'll have problems finding them for a 1G these days.

I see the front Konis are still around for the 1g, but what would you match them with on the rears? There is a thread somewhere here that someone is using the 2g rears without issue. I was also considering going with konis, but not sure what to do about the rears.

Hmmm, interesting. Thanks for the post guys, but I had no clue they discontinued the rears in the koni's. That's lucky that the 2g koni's work on awd's, but I still think I'm screwed out of koni's since I'm rocking fwd :/ Anyone know if this luck works for fwd's as well or should I just have my mind set on agx's? I've heard good about both being mated with stock springs, just not enough to chose one or the other. Anyone with a similar setup perhaps? Thanks again.

Koni is a better choice for a setup like koni/Ground control, for a stock spring I would go with Gr2's, I had agx's and they ride like crap with eibach sportline springs

I've heard a lot about bad ride with agx's and eibach's. From what I understand though, struts are for performance/ride and springs are for basically looks, there for I figured performance struts with stock springs would be perfect. I was told by my steering and suspension teacher, which also happens to be a performance suspension specialist, that for performance based driving you want stiff struts with soft springs. If you look at any after market springs for the 1g dsm's you can see that none of them are softer than stock. He also said lowering a cars center of gravity is good but going to stiffer springs to do so is less beneficial. If anyone has some good points for or against this I would be delighted to hear them. Thanks guys.

konis..agx's arent bad but konis might ride a little smoother.

Koni's are very tempting but does anyone know if 2g rears will work on a 1g fwd?

I've gone through a few AGX shocks and none of the rears were messed up. The fronts were pretty much destroyed. Anyway, what I'm saying is get the front konis and rear AGX. Should be fine.

My setup is Koni's + Eibach Pro-Kit springs and I have no complaints at all.

I'm seeing a lot of people talking about stiff rides, but are you actually dialing in your suspension at all?? Springs are really only going to help with your bound and rebound. You really have to adjust your shocks to do everything else u want. How hard or soft your car rides is corrolated to how hard or soft you set your shocks on adjustables. Try playing with the settings a bit and you may be surprised what you find. I have never tried konis or agx's personally. I have run kyb gr2s with eibachs on an mk3 supra with decent results, but normally I just put a full tien suspension into my cars so I have the ability to fully adjust everything. Ride height, damper, rebound, preload and so on. Mainly because I like to run different types of tracks. Strait lines and auto x are my favorite.
